قضى شخص وفقد 44 آخرون إثر سقوط حافلة من جسر في نهر «أويمي» في وسط بنين، في ساعة متأخرة من ليل السبت، وفق ما أعلن وزير الداخلية.
وقال الوزير الحسن سيدو، في بيان له، إن سائق الحافلة التي كانت متجهة من «لومي» إلى «نيامي» عاصمة النيجر، فقد السيطرة عليها.
وأضاف الوزير أن «السائق فقد السيطرة على الحافلة بعد اصطدامها بسور الجسر قبل أن ينتهي بها الأمر في قاع النهر»، وفق «فرانس برس».
وأكد الوزير سيدو أن السلطات تستخدم كل الوسائل المتاحة لها للعثور على المفقودين في الحادث.
ونقلت فرق الإسعاف والطوارئ 9 ناجين إلى مستشفى في «سافا»، وهي أقرب مدينة رئيسية، وهم في «حالة مستقرة».
ولم يتم الكشف عن مزيد من التفاصيل حول الحادث مع استمرار العمليات انتشال الحافلة من النهر.
One person died and 44 others went missing after a bus fell from a bridge into the "Ouémi" River in central Benin late Saturday night, according to the interior minister.
The minister, Hassan Siddo, stated in a statement that the bus driver, who was heading from "Lomé" to "Niamey," the capital of Niger, lost control of the vehicle.
The minister added that "the driver lost control of the bus after it collided with the bridge railing before ending up at the bottom of the river," according to "France Presse."
Minister Siddo confirmed that the authorities are using all available means to locate the missing individuals from the incident.
Rescue and emergency teams transported 9 survivors to a hospital in "Sava," the nearest major city, and they are in "stable condition."
Further details about the incident have not been disclosed as operations to retrieve the bus from the river continue.
