ألقت الشرطة القبض على أم في ولاية ألاباما بتهمة محتملة تتعلق بقتل طفلتها، بعد العثور على جثة الرضيعة داخل سيارة جنازة.
ووفقًا لما نقلته صحيفة جادسدن تايمز وWBRC 6 News عن شرطة جادسدن، عُثر على الطفلة بليسنس بيرل، البالغة من العمر سنة واحدة، في الجزء الخلفي من سيارة جنازة تابعة لدار ويست جادسدن.
وبعد تلقي بلاغ من موظفي دار الجنازة، حضرت الشرطة إلى المكان لتجد الطفلة خارج التابوت، حيث بدأت التحقيقات في وفاتها باعتبارها جريمة قتل.
وألقي القبض على والدة الطفلة، تيريكا بيرل (29 عامًا)، على خلفية الاشتباه بتورطها في الحادث، وتم احتجازها في سجن مقاطعة إيتواه بدون إمكانية الإفراج بكفالة، بحسب سجلات الاعتقال التي اطلعت عليها مجلة بيبول.
وعاد موظفو دار الجنازة من موعدهم، وظنوا أنها في البداية دمية داخل عربة الجنازة، لكن سرعان ما أدركوا أنها طفل رضيع.
وقال دانتيز روبنسون، مالك دار الجنازات، للصحيفة: «تلقيت اتصالًا من أحد الموظفين أثناء استعدادهم للعمل الليلي. خرجنا بسيارة النقل وعدنا صباح اليوم التالي، وعندما بدأوا بأعمال التنظيف وجدوا رضيعًا داخل إحدى عربات الجنازة».
وأصدرت إدارة شرطة جادسدن بيانًا قالت فيه: «ستبقى ذكرى هذا الطفل محفورة في قلوبنا، وسنستمر في السعي لتحقيق العدالة في كل قضية، مهما كانت التحديات كبيرة»، بحسب صحيفة جادسدن تايمز.
وأوضح الملازم داستي فورد أن «التحقيق انتقل من مرحلة الشك إلى الاعتقال في أقل من 12 ساعة»، حسبما نقلت قناة WBRC 6 الإخبارية.
The police arrested a mother in Alabama on potential charges related to the murder of her daughter after the infant's body was found inside a hearse.
According to reports from the Gadsden Times and WBRC 6 News, the child, Blessings Pearl, who was one year old, was discovered in the back of a hearse belonging to West Gadsden Funeral Home.
After receiving a report from the funeral home staff, the police arrived at the scene to find the child outside the coffin, where investigations into her death began as a homicide.
The child's mother, Terika Pearl (29 years old), was arrested on suspicion of involvement in the incident and was held in Etowah County Jail without the possibility of bail, according to arrest records reviewed by People magazine.
The funeral home staff returned from their appointment and initially thought it was a doll inside the hearse, but soon realized it was a baby.
Dantez Robinson, the owner of the funeral home, told the newspaper: "I received a call from one of the staff while they were preparing for the night shift. We went out with the transport vehicle and returned the next morning, and when they started cleaning, they found a baby inside one of the hearses."
The Gadsden Police Department issued a statement saying, "The memory of this child will be etched in our hearts, and we will continue to seek justice in every case, no matter how great the challenges," according to the Gadsden Times.
Lieutenant Dusty Ford explained that "the investigation moved from suspicion to arrest in less than 12 hours," as reported by WBRC 6 News.
