في واقعة غير مألوفة، أعلنت فرق إطفاء مقاطعة بريتش كولومبيا الكندية أن طائراً جارحاً تسبب باندلاع حريق في أحد الحقول، إثر سقوط سمكة من مخالبه على خطوط الكهرباء.
وأوضح الفريق أن «طائر الأوسبري التقط السمكة من نهر يبعد نحو ميلين عن موقع الحادثة، وأسقطها عن طريق الخطأ فوق خط كهرباء أثناء الطيران، ما تسبّب بصدمة كهربائية أدّت إلى اشتعال الأعشاب الجافة أسفل الخط واندلاع الحريق».
ووثّقت فرق الإطفاء الحادثة بنشر صور تظهر بقايا السمكة المتفحّمة، وعلّقت مازحة: «نعم، سمكة أشعلت الحريق.. ويُرجّح أن الأوسبري أرادها مشوية!»، ورغم أن الحريق كان محدوداً، فقد استُخدم نحو 4800 غالون من المياه لإخماده.
ولم تُسجّل إصابات، فيما أكّد الفريق أن «الأوسبري لا يزال طليقاً، لكنه يخضع لتحقيق ساخر على وسائل التواصل»، وتأتي هذه الحادثة الطريفة في وقت لا تزال فيه حرائق الغابات الكبرى في كندا تهدد جودة الهواء في أجزاء من الولايات المتحدة.
ويُعدّ العقاب النسري، المعروف أيضاً بـ«عقاب السمك»، طائراً جارحاً متوسط إلى كبير الحجم، يعيش بالقرب من المسطحات المائية ويتغذى بشكل شبه كامل على الأسماك. ويتميّز بمهارات صيد عالية، إذ يرصد فريسته من الجو قبل أن ينقضّ عليها بسرعة خاطفة ويصطادها بمخالبه الحادة.
وغالباً ما يحمل هذا الطائر فريسته لمسافات طويلة أثناء الطيران، لكنه قد يُسقطها في حال شعر بالإرهاق أو إن كانت أثقل من قدرته على التمسك بها، ما قد يؤدي أحياناً إلى حوادث غير متوقعة، كما حدث في هذه الواقعة.
ويُعرف العقاب النسري أيضاً ببناء أعشاش ضخمة على الأشجار المرتفعة أو أعمدة الكهرباء أو الهياكل العالية القريبة من المياه، ويعود عادة إلى نفس الموقع موسماً بعد آخر.
In an unusual incident, fire crews from British Columbia, Canada, announced that a bird of prey caused a fire in a field after dropping a fish from its talons onto power lines.
The team explained that “the osprey caught the fish from a river about two miles away from the incident site and accidentally dropped it over a power line while flying, which caused an electric shock that ignited the dry grass beneath the line and started the fire.”
The fire crews documented the incident by posting photos showing the charred remains of the fish, jokingly commenting: “Yes, a fish started the fire... and it’s likely that the osprey wanted it grilled!” Although the fire was limited, about 4,800 gallons of water were used to extinguish it.
No injuries were reported, while the team confirmed that “the osprey is still at large, but it is under a humorous investigation on social media.” This amusing incident comes at a time when major wildfires in Canada continue to threaten air quality in parts of the United States.
The osprey, also known as the “fish hawk,” is a medium to large bird of prey that lives near water bodies and feeds almost exclusively on fish. It is characterized by high hunting skills, as it spots its prey from the air before swooping down quickly to catch it with its sharp talons.
This bird often carries its catch over long distances while flying, but it may drop it if it feels fatigued or if it is heavier than its ability to hold onto, which can sometimes lead to unexpected accidents, as happened in this case.
The osprey is also known for building large nests on tall trees, power poles, or high structures near water, and it usually returns to the same site season after season.
