شهد مطار دنفر الدولي حادثة طارئة أثارت الذعر، بعدما اندلع حريق مفاجئ في طائرة تابعة لشركة الخطوط الجوية الأمريكية، قبل دقائق من موعد إقلاعها، ما استدعى إخلاء الطائرة بشكل عاجل عبر مزالق الطوارئ، وسط سحب كثيفة من الدخان والنيران.
وذكرت إدارة الطيران الفدرالية أن الرحلة رقم 3023 أبلغت عن «عطل محتمل في نظام عجلات الهبوط» أثناء استعدادها للإقلاع. وأوضحت شركة الطيران، التي تتخذ من فورت وورث بولاية تكساس مقراً لها، أن الحريق نجم عن خلل في أحد إطارات الطائرة.
وبحسب بيان الشركة، فإن الطائرة من طراز «بوينغ 737 ماكس 8» كانت متجهة إلى مطار ميامي الدولي، وعلى متنها 173 راكباً و6 من أفراد الطاقم. وفور اكتشاف الحريق، أعلن الطيار حالة الطوارئ وفعّل إجراءات الإخلاء السريع.
وأظهر مقطع فيديو بثّته وسائل إعلام محلية لحظات إجلاء الركاب، إذ شوهدوا وهم يفرّون عبر مزلقة الطوارئ قرب مقدمة الطائرة، حاملين أطفالهم وأمتعتهم الشخصية. وقد تعثر عدد من الركاب عند نهاية المزلقة، من بينهم شخص بالغ كان يحمل طفلاً صغيراً، وسقطوا على أرض المدرج الأسمنتي. وتم نقل الركاب لاحقاً إلى مبنى المسافرين بواسطة حافلات خاصة.
ونجحت فرق الطوارئ في مطار دنفر في إجلاء جميع الركاب وأفراد الطاقم خلال دقائق معدودة، من دون تسجيل أي خسائر في الأرواح.
وأوضح متحدث باسم شركة الخطوط الجوية الأميركية، في تصريح لموقع ديلي بيست، أن الطائرة من طراز «بوينغ 737 ماكس 8» تعرضت لعطل ميكانيكي في الإطارات أثناء محاولة الإقلاع، وذلك حوالى الساعة 2:45 بعد الظهر بالتوقيت المحلي. وكانت الطائرة في طريقها إلى مطار ميامي الدولي عند وقوع الحادث.
Denver International Airport experienced an emergency incident that caused panic when a sudden fire broke out on an American Airlines plane just minutes before its scheduled departure, necessitating the urgent evacuation of the aircraft via emergency slides amid thick clouds of smoke and flames.
The Federal Aviation Administration reported that flight number 3023 reported a "possible malfunction in the landing gear system" while preparing for takeoff. The airline, based in Fort Worth, Texas, explained that the fire was caused by a malfunction in one of the aircraft's tires.
According to the airline's statement, the aircraft, a Boeing 737 Max 8, was headed to Miami International Airport with 173 passengers and 6 crew members on board. Upon discovering the fire, the pilot declared an emergency and activated rapid evacuation procedures.
A video broadcast by local media showed moments of the passengers' evacuation, as they were seen fleeing down the emergency slide near the front of the plane, carrying their children and personal belongings. Several passengers stumbled at the end of the slide, including an adult carrying a small child, and they fell onto the concrete runway. The passengers were later transported to the terminal building by special buses.
Emergency teams at Denver Airport successfully evacuated all passengers and crew members within a few minutes, with no reported loss of life.
A spokesperson for American Airlines stated in a comment to Daily Beast that the Boeing 737 Max 8 experienced a mechanical failure in the tires during the attempted takeoff, around 2:45 PM local time. The aircraft was en route to Miami International Airport at the time of the incident.
