It seems that misfortunes do not come singly for the media personality Maha Al-Saghir, as she found herself facing successive waves of controversy right after stepping out of the spotlight due to her separation from artist Ahmed El-Sakka. The latest issue involves a new Swiss accusation of stealing an artwork and using it commercially without permission, adding to an already inflated record of allegations related to intellectual property.
The scandal began in Europe, where a famous Swiss artist published a photo of his original artwork on his official account, confirming that Maha Al-Saghir had used it in designs for a brand bearing her name, without any authorization or communication. This was not the first time, as Danish artist "Lisa Lack Nelson" had previously accused Maha of using her famous painting "I Made Myself Some Wings" in a television program, before the latter admitted her mistake and said, "I wronged myself."
Later, a French artist and a German artist joined the series of accusations, revealing a troubling pattern in the media personality's treatment of others' rights. Even the television programs she appears in did not escape the repercussions of the crisis, as the host of the program "With You" found herself in an awkward position that compelled her to publish a quick clarification out of respect for the viewers.
Despite Maha Al-Saghir's attempts to absorb the public outrage, the uproar raised on social media and the criticisms directed at her from artistic and legal circles indicate a deeper crisis: the absence of a culture of respect for intellectual property rights among some public figures.
The Egyptian Media Regulatory Authority announced an immediate investigation, but it seems that Maha is now required to do more than just apologize... she is called to redefine her professional image and confront the more difficult question: Were these individual mistakes or a systematic approach all along?!
