أعلنت السلطات الإندونيسية، (الإثنين)، إلغاء عشرات الرحلات الجوية من وإلى جزيرة بالي السياحية، بعد ثوران بركان «ليوتوبي لاكي لاكي» الذي قذف سحابة ضخمة من الرماد بارتفاع 18 كيلومتراً؛ ما أثار اضطرابات واسعة في حركة الطيران.
وذكرت هيئة علم البراكين أن البركان، الواقع في جزيرة فلوريس شرق البلاد، ثار عند الساعة 11:05 صباحاً بالتوقيت المحلي، مصحوباً بانفجارات وهزات أرضية مستمرة، ورفعت مستوى التحذير إلى أقصى درجاته.
وأوضح مدير مطار بالي أحمد سويجي شهاب، أن ثوران البركان أدى إلى إلغاء 24 رحلة جوية، شملت وجهات مثل أستراليا، وسنغافورة، وكوريا الجنوبية، كما سُجلت تأخيرات إضافية في رحلات شركات طيران مثل «فيرجن أستراليا»، و«جيت ستار»، و«أير آسيا».
ورغم أن الرماد لم يؤثر مباشرة على المجال الجوي في بالي، إلا أن المخاوف من انتشاره دفعت شركات الطيران إلى تعليق أو تأجيل الرحلات كإجراء احترازي.
من جهتها، حذّرت وكالة البراكين من احتمال حدوث «فيضانات لاهار» - وهي سيول طينية بركانية - في حال هطول أمطار غزيرة على المناطق القريبة من البركان، داعية السكان إلى الالتزام بمنطقة أمان لا تقل عن 6 كيلومترات من الفوهة، وارتداء الأقنعة.
ولم ترد تقارير فورية عن وقوع إصابات أو أضرار، لكن السلطات ذكّرت بأن البركان ذاته كان قد تسبب، الشهر الماضي، في إلغاء عشرات الرحلات الجوية وإجبار سكان بعض القرى على الإخلاء، بعدما أسفر عن مقتل تسعة أشخاص في نوفمبر الماضي.
The Indonesian authorities announced on (Monday) the cancellation of dozens of flights to and from the tourist island of Bali, following the eruption of the "Liutobi Lakilaki" volcano, which spewed a massive ash cloud reaching 18 kilometers high; causing widespread disruptions in air travel.
The Volcanology Agency reported that the volcano, located on Flores Island in the east of the country, erupted at 11:05 AM local time, accompanied by explosions and continuous tremors, raising the alert level to its highest degree.
Bali Airport Director Ahmad Sujiy Shihab explained that the volcanic eruption led to the cancellation of 24 flights, including destinations such as Australia, Singapore, and South Korea. Additional delays were also recorded for flights from airlines such as "Virgin Australia," "Jetstar," and "AirAsia."
Although the ash did not directly affect the airspace in Bali, concerns about its spread prompted airlines to suspend or delay flights as a precautionary measure.
For its part, the Volcanology Agency warned of the possibility of "lahar floods" - which are volcanic mudflows - in the event of heavy rainfall in areas near the volcano, urging residents to stay within a safety zone of at least 6 kilometers from the crater and to wear masks.
No immediate reports of injuries or damage have been received, but authorities reminded that the volcano itself had caused the cancellation of dozens of flights last month and forced residents of some villages to evacuate, after resulting in the deaths of nine people last November.
