شهدت العاصمة الكورية الجنوبية سيول حادثة صادمة هزت الرأي العام، حيث أقدم رجل يبلغ من العمر 67 عامًا، يُدعى «وون»، على إشعال النار عمدًا في عربة مترو على الخط رقم 5 أثناء ساعة الذروة.
وقعت الحادثة عند الساعة 8:42 صباحًا، أثناء مرور القطار في نفق بين محطتي يوينارو ومابو، مما أدى إلى إصابة ستة ركاب بجروح طفيفة ونقل 23 آخرين، بمن فيهم المشتبه به، إلى المستشفى بسبب استنشاق الدخان وإصابات أخرى مثل التواء الكاحل.
ووفقًا لمكتب المدعي العام في منطقة سيول الجنوبية، أظهرت لقطات كاميرات المراقبة المشتبه به وهو يسكب البنزين من زجاجة بلاستيكية على أرضية العربة قبل إشعال النار باستخدام ولاعة، مما تسبب في حالة من الذعر، حيث هرع حوالى 400 راكب للفرار، بعضهم عبر الأنفاق، تاركين وراءهم متعلقاتهم الشخصية.
وأدى الحريق إلى تدمير جزء من إحدى العربات وإلحاق أضرار بدخان كثيف بعربتين أخريين، بتكلفة تقدر بحوالى 330 مليون وون (حوالى 242,400 دولار أمريكي).
وتم القبض على المشتبه به، وون، بعد الحادث مباشرة، وكشفت التحقيقات أن دافعه كان الغضب من حكم قضائي غير مرضٍ في قضية طلاقه، وأن المتهم اشترى البنزين من محطة وقود قبل أسبوعين من الهجوم، بعد أن تخلص من ممتلكاته واستكشف محطات المترو الرئيسية في سيول.
ووجهت السلطات للمتهم عدة تهم من بينها الشروع في القتل والحرق العمد وانتهاك قانون سلامة السكك الحديدية، وتم احتجازه في 2 يونيو 2025، حيث تعد هذه الحادثة واحدة من أخطر حوادث الحرق العمد في نظام مترو سيول منذ كارثة مترو دايغو عام 2003، التي أودت بحياة 192 شخصًا وأصابت 151 آخرين بجروح.
وأشارت السلطات إلى أن التقييم النفسي للمشتبه به لم يظهر أي اضطرابات نفسية، مما يعزز الاعتقاد بأن الدافع وراء الجريمة كان مرتبطًا بمشكلاته الشخصية.

The incident occurred at 8:42 AM while the train was passing through a tunnel between the Yoinaru and Mapo stations, resulting in six passengers sustaining minor injuries and 23 others, including the suspect, being taken to the hospital due to smoke inhalation and other injuries such as ankle sprains.
According to the Southern Seoul District Prosecutor's Office, surveillance camera footage showed the suspect pouring gasoline from a plastic bottle onto the floor of the car before igniting it with a lighter, causing panic as approximately 400 passengers rushed to escape, some through the tunnels, leaving their personal belongings behind.
The fire destroyed part of one car and caused smoke damage to two other cars, with an estimated cost of about 330 million won (approximately $242,400).
The suspect, Won, was arrested immediately after the incident, and investigations revealed that his motive was anger over an unsatisfactory court ruling in his divorce case. The accused had purchased gasoline from a gas station two weeks prior to the attack after disposing of his belongings and scouting major subway stations in Seoul.
The authorities charged the suspect with several offenses, including attempted murder, arson, and violation of railway safety laws, and he was detained on June 2, 2025. This incident is considered one of the most serious arson cases in the Seoul Metro system since the Daegu subway disaster in 2003, which resulted in the deaths of 192 people and injured 151 others.
The authorities indicated that the psychological evaluation of the suspect did not reveal any mental disorders, reinforcing the belief that the motive behind the crime was related to his personal issues.
