في سبتمبر 2024، وقبل أيام من التحاقها بالجامعة، اكتشفت «آنا غريس» إصابتها بورم أرومي دبقي (Glioblastoma)، وهو أحد أكثر أنواع سرطان الدماغ عدوانية ولا يوجد له علاج نهائي حتى الآن، وبدأت الأعراض بظهور تنميل في الوجه والساق، ضعف في التوازن، مشاكل في الرؤية، وصعوبات في النطق.
ورغم التشخيص القاسي، اختارت آنا مشاركة رحلتها مع متابعيها على «تيك توك»، ووثّقت تفاصيل علاجها، آلامها، وأحلامها بأسلوب مفعم بالشجاعة والإيمان، وفي أحد مقاطعها الأخيرة، قالت: «الأمور ليست جيدة.. الورم نما في منطقة تمنعني من التنفس، ولا يمكن إجراء عملية، لكنني أؤمن أن المعجزة ممكنة».
وتُعد «آنا غريس» واحدة من نجوم على منصة «تيك توك» وثّقوا معاركهم مع السرطان، مثل بيلي هاتشينز التي توفيت في فبراير الماضي عن عمر 26 عامًا بعد صراع مع سرطان القولون، وديبورا فينك التي رحلت عن 57 عامًا بعد معركة مع سرطان نادر، إذ استخدم هؤلاء المؤثرون المنصة لرفع الوعي حول المرض، مشاركين قصصهم لإلهام الآخرين وتسليط الضوء على أهمية الكشف المبكر.
وتشير الإحصاءات إلى أن سرطان الدماغ يُصيب حوالى 24,000 شخص سنويًا في الولايات المتحدة، وورم الأرومي الدبقي يُعتبر من أكثر الأنواع فتكًا، إذ يبلغ متوسط البقاء على قيد الحياة حوالى 12-18 شهرًا بعد التشخيص، ورغم هذه الإحصاءات القاتمة، استطاعت آنا أن تحول تجربتها إلى مصدر إلهام، حيث تبرع العديد من متابعيها عبر حملة GoFundMe لدعم علاجها، مما يعكس تأثيرها الكبير على مجتمعها الافتراضي.
