أعلنت شركة موزيلا إيقاف خدمة Pocket الشهيرة، التي تتيح حفظ المقالات وصفحات الويب، بحلول يوم 8 يوليو 2025، وذلك في إطار خططها لإعادة توجيه مواردها نحو مشاريع أخرى.
وذكرت موزيلا في بيان رسمي أنه سيكون بإمكان المستخدمين تصدير العناصر المحفوظة في الخدمة حتى 8 أكتوبر 2025، وهو الموعد النهائي الذي ستُحذف فيه بيانات المستخدمين كافة.
وستلغي الشركة الاشتراكات المأجورة تلقائياً بدايةً من 8 يوليو، مع إرجاع المبالغ المتبقية من خطط الاشتراك السنوية.
وكانت موزيلا قد أزالت حديثاً إضافة Pocket من متصفحها فايرفوكس، كما أزالت تطبيق الأجهزة المحمولة الخاص بالخدمة، لكنها أوضحت أن المستخدمين الذين سبق أن ثبتوا التطبيق سيكون بإمكانهم إعادة تنزيله حتى أكتوبر.
وكانت خدمة Pocket، المعروفة سابقاً باسم Read It Later، قد أُطلقت عام 2007، وسرعان ما اكتسبت شعبية واسعة بين المستخدمين الراغبين في حفظ المقالات، وصفحات الويب، ومقاطع الفيديو للرجوع إليها لاحقاً. وفي عام 2015، أضافت موزيلا Pocket كأداة افتراضية في متصفح فايرفوكس، ثم استحوذت عليها بنحو رسمي في 2017.
وأوضحت موزيلا أن قرار إيقاف Pocket يعود إلى «تغير طريقة حفظ المحتوى واستهلاكه عبر الإنترنت»، ورغبتها في التركيز على مشاريع تتماشى بنحو أفضل مع «عادات التصفح واحتياجات المستخدمين الرقمية المتجددة»، على حد تعبيرها.
وفي السياق نفسه، أعلنت موزيلا أيضاً إيقاف خدمة Fakespot، التي تتيح اكتشاف التقييمات المزيفة عبر الإنترنت، والتي استحوذت عليها عام 2023. ومن المقرر إيقاف أداة «فحص المراجعات» المدمجة في فايرفوكس يوم 10 يونيو 2025.
Mozilla has announced the discontinuation of the popular Pocket service, which allows users to save articles and web pages, by July 8, 2025, as part of its plans to redirect resources towards other projects.
Mozilla stated in an official announcement that users will be able to export their saved items from the service until October 8, 2025, which is the deadline when all user data will be deleted.
The company will automatically cancel paid subscriptions starting July 8, with refunds for the remaining amounts of annual subscription plans.
Recently, Mozilla removed the Pocket extension from its Firefox browser, as well as the mobile app for the service, but clarified that users who had previously installed the app would be able to re-download it until October.
The Pocket service, formerly known as Read It Later, was launched in 2007 and quickly gained widespread popularity among users wanting to save articles, web pages, and videos for later reference. In 2015, Mozilla added Pocket as a default tool in the Firefox browser, and then officially acquired it in 2017.
Mozilla explained that the decision to discontinue Pocket is due to the "changing way content is saved and consumed online," and its desire to focus on projects that align better with "the evolving browsing habits and digital needs of users," as stated.
In the same context, Mozilla also announced the discontinuation of the Fakespot service, which allows users to detect fake reviews online, which it acquired in 2023. The integrated "Review Checker" tool in Firefox is set to be discontinued on June 10, 2025.
