أعلن سلاح الجو الأوكراني فقدان طائرة مقاتلة من طراز «إف-16» صباح اليوم (الجمعة)، بسبب وضع غير اعتيادي على متنها، وذكر أن الطيار تمكن من تفعيل مقعد القذف.
وجاء في بيان على تطبيق تلغرام: «وفقاً للبيانات الأولية.. حدث وضع غير اعتيادي على متن الطائرة. قام الطيار بإبعاد الطائرة عن المناطق السكنية وجرى قذفه بنجاح».
وهذه ثالث طائرة أمريكية مقاتلة من طراز «إف-16» تسقط أو يتم إسقاطها منذ أن تسلمت أوكرانيا عدداً منها العام الماضي.
ففي وقت سابق، ذكرت الخدمة الأوكرانية في هيئة الإذاعة البريطانية «بي بي سي»، نقلاً عن مصادر حكومية أوكرانية، أن صواريخ روسية أسقطت مقاتلة «إف-16» فوق منطقة سومي شمال شرقي أوكرانيا، ما أدى إلى مقتل طيار أوكراني.
وكان الرئيس الأوكراني فولوديمير زيلينسكي أكد مقتل طيار كان يقود مقاتلة غربية من طراز «إف-16»، خلال مهمة قتالية.
وقال زيلينسكي: «الكابتن بافلو إيفانوف قتل السبت خلال قتال أثناء قيادته طائرة إف-16»، معرباً عن تعازيه لأسرته.
وسابقاً، أكد الجيش الأوكراني مقتل طيار في تحطم طائرة من نوع «إف-16»، موضحاً أن الاتصال انقطع مع الطائرة أثناء صدها لهجوم روسي وسط تضارب في المواقف حول ظروف تحطّم الطائرة.
ونتيجة لذلك، قرر زيلينسكي إقالة قائد سلاح الجو الأوكراني ميكولا أوليشوك.
The Ukrainian Air Force announced the loss of an F-16 fighter jet this morning (Friday) due to an unusual situation on board, stating that the pilot was able to activate the ejection seat.
A statement on the Telegram app read: "According to preliminary data... an unusual situation occurred on board the aircraft. The pilot steered the plane away from residential areas and successfully ejected."
This is the third American F-16 fighter jet to crash or be shot down since Ukraine received a number of them last year.
Earlier, the Ukrainian service of the BBC reported, citing Ukrainian government sources, that Russian missiles shot down an F-16 fighter jet over the Sumy region in northeastern Ukraine, resulting in the death of a Ukrainian pilot.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the death of a pilot who was flying a Western-made F-16 during a combat mission.
Zelensky stated: "Captain Pavlo Ivanov was killed on Saturday during combat while piloting an F-16," expressing his condolences to his family.
Previously, the Ukrainian military confirmed the death of a pilot in the crash of an F-16, explaining that communication was lost with the aircraft while it was repelling a Russian attack amid conflicting reports about the circumstances of the crash.
As a result, Zelensky decided to dismiss the commander of the Ukrainian Air Force, Mykola Oleschuk.
