صدر الأمر الملكي من خادم الحرمين الشريفين الملك سلمان بن عبدالعزيز، بأن يكون يوم 22 فبراير يوماً للتأسيس، وهو اليوم الذي يرمز إلى العمق التاريخي والحضاري والثقافي للمملكة العربية السعودية عندما أسس الإمام محمد بن سعود الدولة السعودية الأولى عام 1139هـ / 1727م.
وبدأ عهد الإمام محمد بن سعود بتوليه الحكم في الدرعية في النصف الثاني من عام 1139 هـ وحُدد 30 / 6 / 1139 هـ (22 / 2/ 1727 م) الثاني والعشرين من فبراير ليكون تاريخاً لبداية تأسيس الدولة السعودية.
وهي مناسبة للاعتزاز بالجذور واستذكار تأسيسها على يد الإمام محمد بن سعود منذ أكثر من 3 قرون، وما حققته من الوحدة والأمن والاستقرار، واستمرارها في البناء والتوحيد والتنمية.
لقد مضت قرون على إعلان الإمام محمد بن سعود تأسيس الدولة السعودية الأولى التي ارتكزت على عدة مبادئ؛ الإيمان بالكتاب والسنة نهجاً ودستوراً، وإرساء دعائم الأمن والاستقرار، وتحقيق العدل، وجمع الكلمة ووحدة الصف، ونشر العلم والمعرفة في المجتمع والاحتفال بيوم التأسيس دليل على حرص خادم الحرمين، وولي العهد الأمين على إبراز الإرث والعمق التاريخي لهذه الدولة المباركة منذ تأسيسها، وصولاً لهذا العهد الزاهر عهد التطوير والبناء والتنمية، بما تشهده المملكة من نهضة تنموية في شتى المجالات.
يعد ذكرى «يوم التأسيس» استذكاراً لتاريخنا العريق وحضارتنا المتجذرة وثقافتنا الراسخة التي بدأت من الدرعية عاصمة هذه البلاد الأولى في منتصف عام 1139هـ/ 1727، والاحتفال يجسد الاعتزاز بالجذور الراسخة لهذه الدولة العظيمة، وتعزيز القيم والمعاني وترسيخ الاعتزاز بالإرث الثقافي والاجتماعي، والافتخار بتاريخ الوطن العظيم، وحضارته وتراثه ورموزه وقيمه الوطنية الراسخة.

The royal decree was issued by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, declaring February 22nd as Founding Day, which symbolizes the historical, civilizational, and cultural depth of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia when Imam Muhammad bin Saud established the first Saudi state in the year 1139 AH / 1727 AD.
The era of Imam Muhammad bin Saud began with his assumption of power in Diriyah in the second half of the year 1139 AH, and February 22nd (30/6/1139 AH) was designated as the date for the founding of the Saudi state.
This occasion is a time to take pride in our roots and to remember its establishment by Imam Muhammad bin Saud over three centuries ago, and what has been achieved in terms of unity, security, and stability, as well as its ongoing efforts in construction, unification, and development.
