وطبقاً لتقارير إعلامية، قال سواريز في تصريحات نشرها موقع «فوت ميركاتو»: «إذا كانوا بحاجة لي، فلن أرفض مطلقاً اللعب للمنتخب الوطني».
وأضاف: «منذ اعتزالي اللعب الدولي، انخفض الحماس والشغف قليلاً. لا يزال الشغف والأحلام موجودين، لكن الأمر لم يعد كما كان».
وجاءت هذه التصريحات بعد مشاركة حاسمة مع إنتر ميامي الأسبوع الماضي؛ حيث أثبت سواريز مجدداً قدرته على تغيير مجرى المباريات عقب تسجيله هدفاً منح فريقه التعادل 2-2 أمام أوستن الأحد الماضي، في افتتاح ملعبه الجديد، بل اعتقد المهاجم الأوروغوياني أنه خطف الفوز في الدقائق الأخيرة، قبل أن يتم إلغاء هدفه.
وسيكون ظهور سواريز حال عودته عن الاعتزال الدولي في المواجهة الأولى لمنتخب الأوروغواي أمام المنتخب السعودي التي ستقام الاثنين 15 يونيو على ملعب هارد روك في ميامي.

These statements came after a decisive participation with Inter Miami last week; where Suárez once again proved his ability to change the course of matches after scoring a goal that brought his team to a 2-2 draw against Austin last Sunday, in the opening of their new stadium, and the Uruguayan striker even thought he had snatched the win in the final minutes before his goal was disallowed.
If Suárez returns from international retirement, he will make his appearance in the first match for the Uruguayan national team against the Saudi national team, which will take place on Monday, June 15, at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
