فرّ جي بليز مايولاس، رئيس الاتحاد الكونغولي لكرة القدم، برفقة زوجته وابنه من البلاد قبل أيام فقط من مثوله أمام المحكمة، على خلفية اتهامات بالفساد، وفق ما أورد موقع «أفريكا سوكر».
وجّهت السلطات القضائية إلى مايولاس وعائلته اتهامات باختلاس مبلغ 1.1 مليون دولار، قدمه الاتحاد الدولي لكرة القدم «فيفا» في فبراير 2021 ضمن مبادرة الإغاثة من جائحة «كوفيد-19»، وكان الهدف من الأموال دعم وتطوير أنشطة كرة القدم خلال الأزمة الصحية.
وأفاد التحقيق بأن نحو 500 ألف دولار من المبلغ المخصص كان لدعم منتخب السيدات، ما أثار مخاوف جدية حول إساءة استخدام الموارد المخصصة لتطوير كرة القدم النسائية في الكونغو.
ورغم غياب المتهم عن المحكمة، استمرت الإجراءات القضائية وأصدرت المحكمة حكماً بإدانته غيابياً. وعقب صدور الحكم، تحركت السلطات بسرعة، وأصدرت مذكرات توقيف دولية عبر منظمة «الإنتربول»، في محاولة لتحديد مكان مايولاس وعائلته والقبض عليهم.
Gi Blaz Mayolas, the president of the Congolese Football Federation, fled the country with his wife and son just days before his court appearance, amid corruption allegations, according to the website "Africa Soccer."
The judicial authorities have charged Mayolas and his family with embezzling an amount of $1.1 million, which was provided by FIFA in February 2021 as part of the COVID-19 relief initiative, aimed at supporting and developing football activities during the health crisis.
The investigation revealed that about $500,000 of the allocated funds was intended to support the women's national team, raising serious concerns about the misuse of resources designated for the development of women's football in Congo.
Despite the defendant's absence from court, legal proceedings continued, and the court issued a judgment convicting him in absentia. Following the ruling, authorities acted swiftly, issuing international arrest warrants through Interpol in an attempt to locate Mayolas and his family and apprehend them.
