أعلن رئيس الوزراء العراقي محمد شياع السوداني تعطيل الدوام الرسمي في عموم العراق يومي الأربعاء والخميس، احتفاءً بتأهل المنتخب الوطني إلى نهائيات كأس العالم 2026 لكرة القدم.
وشهدت شوارع البلاد، صباح الأربعاء، أجواء احتفالية واسعة، حيث عمّت الكرنفالات بعد إطلاق صافرة نهاية مباراة الملحق العالمي التي حسمها المنتخب العراقي لصالحه بالفوز على بوليفيا بنتيجة هدفين مقابل هدف. وخرجت الجماهير إلى الشوارع رافعة الأعلام العراقية، مرددة الأغاني الشعبية على أنغام الطبول والموسيقى، فيما ازدحمت الطرق بالسيارات التي حملت الأعلام في مشهد يعكس حجم الفرحة الشعبية.
وأعرب المواطنون عن إشادتهم بالأداء الذي قدمه لاعبو المنتخب خلال المباراة، التي أُقيمت في مدينة مونتيري المكسيكية في ساعات مبكرة من صباح الأربعاء.
وفي بيان تهنئة، بارك السوداني للشعب العراقي هذا الإنجاز، مؤكداً أن تأهل المنتخب إلى نهائيات كأس العالم يمثل محطة بارزة في تاريخ الرياضة العراقية، ويعزز حضور العراق في هذا الحدث العالمي، كما يعكس عزيمة الشباب وإصرارهم على رفع اسم البلاد في مختلف المحافل، لا سيما الرياضية.
وأشار إلى أن الحكومة العراقية حرصت منذ انطلاق التصفيات على تقديم الدعم الكامل للمنتخب والاتحاد العراقي لكرة القدم، معبّراً عن ثقته بقدرة اللاعبين على تحقيق هذا الإنجاز والوصول إلى المونديال للمرة الثانية في تاريخهم.
كما وجّه رئيس الوزراء شكره وتقديره للجماهير العراقية داخل البلاد وخارجها على دعمها المستمر للمنتخب طوال مشواره في التصفيات، إضافة إلى الجماهير من الدول الشقيقة والصديقة التي ساندت الفريق، مؤكداً أن الرياضة تمثل جسراً للتواصل والمحبة بين الشعوب، وليست مجرد ساحة للتنافس.
The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani, announced the suspension of official working hours across Iraq on Wednesday and Thursday, in celebration of the national team's qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
On Wednesday morning, the streets of the country witnessed widespread festive atmospheres, as celebrations erupted following the final whistle of the World Cup playoff match, which the Iraqi team won against Bolivia with a score of two goals to one. Crowds took to the streets waving Iraqi flags, singing folk songs to the sounds of drums and music, while roads were congested with cars carrying flags in a scene that reflects the magnitude of the public joy.
Citizens expressed their admiration for the performance of the players during the match, which took place in Monterrey, Mexico, in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
In a congratulatory statement, al-Sudani congratulated the Iraqi people on this achievement, affirming that the team's qualification for the World Cup finals represents a significant milestone in the history of Iraqi sports, enhances Iraq's presence in this global event, and reflects the determination of the youth and their insistence on raising the country's name in various forums, especially in sports.
He pointed out that the Iraqi government has been keen since the start of the qualifiers to provide full support to the team and the Iraqi Football Association, expressing his confidence in the players' ability to achieve this accomplishment and reach the World Cup for the second time in their history.
Additionally, the Prime Minister extended his thanks and appreciation to the Iraqi fans both inside and outside the country for their continuous support of the team throughout its journey in the qualifiers, as well as to the fans from brotherly and friendly countries who supported the team, emphasizing that sports represent a bridge for communication and love between peoples, and are not just a field for competition.
