استهل فريق الأهلي مشواره في دوري روشن السعودي للمحترفين بالفوز على ضيفه الوافد الجديد فريق نيوم بهدف دون مقابل، في اللقاء الذي جمع بينهما على استاد الإنماء بمدينة الملك عبدالله الرياضية بجدة ضمن لقاءات الجولة الأولى لدوري المحترفين.
شهد اللقاء بداية قوية من فريق الأهلي وهدد مرمى نيوم مبكراً وتحصل على ركلة زاوية ولكنه لم يستفد منها، ومن هجمة منظمة مرر إنزو ميلوت الكرة بذكاء لزميله المنطلق إيفان توني ليسكنها الشباك ولكن مساعد الحكم رفع الراية لوجود توني متسللاً وبعد العودة لتقنية الفيديو أعلن الحكم الفنزولي جيسوس فالينزويلا عن احتساب الهدف (د: 23)، وسدد رياض محرز كرة قوية ولكنها ذهبت بجوار القائم، ومع بداية الشوط الثاني أنقذ الحارس إدوراد ميندي مرمى فريقه الأهلي من هدف محقق لفريق نيوم بعد انطلاقة من سايمون بوابري الذي مرر كرة للمنفرد ألكسندر لاكازيت ليسددها قوية ليبعدها ميندي لركلة زاوية، وفي الوقت بدل الضائع أحرز لاكازيت هدفاً لفريق نيوم ولكن بعد العود لتقنية الفيديو تم إلغاؤ لوقوعه في مصيدة التسلل، لينتهي اللقاء بفوز الأهلي على نيوم بهدف دون مقابل.
وبهذه النتيجة يستهل الأهلي مشواره بالفوز وتحقيق النقاط الثلاث، وسيلاقي في الجولة القادمة مضيفه الاتفاق، فيما بدأ نيوم مشواره بالخسارة ويبقى بدون نقاط، وسيواجه في الجولة القادمة مضيفه ضمك.
