تُوّج فريق الأهلي بكأس السوبر السعودي بعد فوزه على نظيره النصر بركلات الترجيح 5/ 3 بعد انتهاء الأشواط الأصلية بالتعادل بهدفين لكل منهما في نهائي البطولة الذي جمع بينهما على استاد هونغ كونغ.
شهد اللقاء بداية قوية من الفريقين لا سيما النصر الذي كاد أن يتقدم مبكراً بعد أن انفرد البرازيلي ويسلي بالحارس الأهلاوي إدوارد ميندي ولكن ويسلي سددها خارج المرمى، ورد الأهلي بهجمة مثالية من ايفان توني مررها لرياض محرز ولكنه سددها ضعيفة ومرت بجوار القائم، وكاد جواو فيليكس أن يباغت ميندي مرتين كانت الأولى من الجهة اليمنى وتمكن ميندي من الإمساك بالكرة، والثانية من الجهة اليسرى وأبعدها ميندي بصعوبة لركلة زاوية، وظهر القائد النصراوي كريستيانو رونالدو بلعبة مقصية رائعة ولكن ميندي تمكن من الإمساك بالكرة، وسدد كومان كرة قوية مرت بجوار القائم، ولعب أيمن يحيى كرة عرضية ولكنها ارتطمت بيد المدافع علي مجرشي ليحتسبها الحكم محمد الهويش ركلة جزاء تقدم لها الأسطورة البرتغالية كريستيانو رونالدو وسددها قوية في منتصف المرمى هدفاً أول للنصر (د: 41)، وأحرز إيفان توني هدفاً بالرأس ولكن ألغاه الحكم بعد العودة لتقنية الفيديو لوجود حالة تسلل، ولكن الأهلي تمكن من العودة للقاء قبل نهاية الشوط الأول عن طريق فرانك كيسيه بعد أن استطاع إنزو ميلوت من تمرير الكرة لكيسيه الذي استلمها على خط الثمانية عشر وسددها في الزاوية البعيدة عن الحارس بينتو لتسكن الشباك هدفاً أول وتعادلاً للأهلي (د: 45+6)، وكاد الأهلي أن يضاعف النتيجة ولكن تسديدة فراس البريكان ارتطمت بالقائم لتضيع فرصة محققة في الدقيقة 71 من عمر اللقاء، وفاجأ بيروزوفيتش الجميع عندما خطف الكرة من فرانك كيسيه على حدود منطقة الثمانية عشر وسدد بروزوفيتش الكرة في الزاوية البعيدة عن ميندي هدفاً ثانياً للنصر (د: 82)، وظهر روجيرو إيبانيز مدافع الأهلي وأدرك التعادل لفريقه بعد ركلة زاوية نفذها رياض محرز وقفز لها إيبانيز وأسكنها الشباك برأسه هدفاً ثانياً للأهلي (د: 89)، وبعد خمس دقائق كوقت بدل ضائع أعلم الحكم محمد الهويش عن نهاية الأشواط الأصلية بالتعادل بهدفين لكل منهما ليتجه الفريقان لركلات الترجيح.
وتمكن لاعبو الأهلي من إحراز الركلات الخمس بنجاح، والتي سددها كل من: إيفان توني، فرانك كيسيه، رياض محرز، فراس البريكان، جالينو، فيما تمكن لاعبو النصر من إحراز ثلاث ركلات بنجاح عن طريق كل من: كريستيانو رونالدو، روزوفيتش، جواو فيليكس، فيما أضاع عبدالله الخيبري ركلة الجزاء الرابعة ولم يسدد النصر الركلة الأخيرة بعد أن أحرز جالينو ركلته الترجيحية بنجاح ليتوج الأهلي بطلاً للسوبر السعودي للمرة الثانية في تاريخه فيما حل النصر ثانياً.

The Al-Ahli team was crowned the Saudi Super Cup after defeating their counterpart Al-Nassr in a penalty shootout 5/3, following a draw of two goals each at the end of the regular time in the final match held at Hong Kong Stadium.
The match witnessed a strong start from both teams, especially Al-Nassr, who nearly took an early lead when Brazilian Wesley broke free from Al-Ahli goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, but Wesley shot it wide of the goal. Al-Ahli responded with a perfect attack from Ivan Toney, who passed it to Riyad Mahrez, but Mahrez's weak shot went past the post. João Félix almost caught Mendy off guard twice; the first time from the right side, where Mendy managed to catch the ball, and the second time from the left side, which Mendy barely deflected for a corner kick. Al-Nassr's captain Cristiano Ronaldo made a stunning bicycle kick, but Mendy was able to catch the ball. Coman struck a powerful shot that went past the post, and Ayman Yahya delivered a cross that hit defender Ali Majrashi's hand, leading referee Mohammed Al-Huwaish to award a penalty kick. The Portuguese legend Cristiano Ronaldo stepped up and shot it powerfully into the middle of the goal, scoring the first goal for Al-Nassr (41').
