تأهل ريال مدريد الإسباني لنصف نهائي كأس العالم للأندية بعد فوزه الصعب على بوروسيا دورتموند الألماني بثلاثة أهداف لهدفين، في اللقاء الذي جمع بينهما على استاد ميتلايف في ختام لقاءات دور الثمانية لمونديال الأندية المقام حالياً في الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية.
شهد اللقاء بداية قوية لريال مدريد الذي تمكن من السيطرة على مجريات اللقاء، وإحراز هدفين في الـ20 دقيقة الأولى، وجاء الهدف الأول من كرة عرضية لعبها إردا غولر ليعكسها غونزالو غارسيا بقدمه داخل مرمى دورتموند هدفاً أول لريال مدريد (د:10)، وبعد مرور 10 دقائق فقط لعب ترنت آرنولد كرة عرضية أرضية سددها فران غارسيا مباشرةً في المرمى هدفاً ثانياً لريال مدريد (د:20)، وحضرت الإثارة في الوقت بدل الضائع من عمر اللقاء، إذ أحرز دورتموند الهدف الأول بعد أن أراد أنطونيو روديغر مدافع ريال مدريد إبعاد الكرة عن مرمى فريقه لكنها وصلت للاعب ماكسمليان بيير ليسددها مباشرةً في المرمى هدفاً أول لبوروسيا دورتموند (د:90+2)، وسرعان ما عاد ريال مدريد للمباراة عن طريق مهاجمه كيليان مبابي العائد من الإصابة، ليلعب كرة مقصية في المرمى هدفاً ثالثاً لريال مدريد (د:90+4)، وبعد هذا الهدف بدقيقتين تحصل دورتموند على ركلة جزاء، ومنح حكم اللقاء رامون أباتي البطاقة الحمراء للاعب ريال مدريد ديان هويسين بطاقة حمراء وتقدم لركلة الجزاء اللاعب سيرو غيراسي وسددها بنجاح ليحرز الهدف الثاني لدورتموند (د:90+8)، لينتهي اللقاء بفوز ريال مدريد بثلاثة أهداف لهدفين.
وبهذه النتيجة يتأهل ريال مدريد لدور نصف النهائي ويضرب موعداً مع باريس سان جيرمان الذي تأهل هو الآخر بعد فوزه على الفريق الألماني الآخر بايرن ميونخ بهدفين دون مقابل.
