The General Assembly of the Brazilian Football Confederation elected businessman Samir Zoud as president for a new four-year term, succeeding Ednaldo Rodrigues (71 years old), who was removed from his position earlier this month by a court decision due to allegations of fraud in a previous agreement that kept him in power. A report broadcast by the "RT" website revealed that "Samir Zoud," who works in the medical field, won in a controversial election that saw a boycott from several major clubs in protest against the electoral system, which favors local federations at the expense of the clubs. Voting took place at the federation's headquarters in Rio de Janeiro, where Zoud received support from 26 local federations and 20 clubs out of 103, allowing him to take over the presidency of the Brazilian Confederation.
For his part, Zoud said after his election: "Today represents the beginning of a new era in the Brazilian Confederation, our leadership will be characterized by ideas and the collaboration of all those wishing to contribute effectively to the complete development of our sport." Zoud will benefit from having a high-level coaching staff at the helm of the Brazilian national team, led by Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti (65 years old), who officially took over the role recently, easing the burden on the new president to find a coach for the national team and giving him more room to focus on structural and organizational issues within the federation.
Who is Samir Zoud?
Samir de Araujo Zoud was born on February 25, 1984, in the city of "Boa Vista" in the state of Roraima in northern Brazil, and grew up in a family known for public and administrative work, where his father played a significant role in the sports field as president of the Roraima Football Federation for 40 consecutive years. Before entering the sports arena, Zoud studied medicine at Nilton Lins University, specializing in sports medicine and infectious diseases. He also served as the director of Roraima General Hospital and had a presence in business through owning a multi-sport activity center. In 2023, Zoud practically took over the management of the Roraima Football Federation after his father was re-elected for a new term, gaining the necessary experience that paved his way to the top. In January 2025, Samir Zoud was officially elected president of the Roraima Football Federation, succeeding his father, who ended his long career. After the resignation of the president of the Brazilian Football Confederation, Zoud became the sole candidate for the position, receiving support from 26 local federations and 20 clubs, which made any competition unlikely. Zoud's career has not been without controversy; he faced lawsuits between 2016 and 2017 due to financial issues related to a business he was a partner in, in addition to being suspended from work as a medical expert for two years due to a medical error he was accused of. Zoud attempted to enter the Brazilian Parliament on two occasions but was unsuccessful, finishing as the fourth alternate in the 2018 elections and the first alternate in the 2022 elections.
