سجّل السباح السعودي سلطان العتيبي إنجازاً جديداً في مسيرته الرياضية، بتحقيقه رقماً قياسياً سعودياً جديداً في سباق 100 متر صدر لفئة العمومي، وذلك خلال مشاركته في بطولة AP Race الدولية المفتوحة المقامة في العاصمة البريطانية لندن.
وأنهى العتيبي السباق بزمن قدره 1:03.63 دقيقة، متجاوزاً الرقم القياسي السابق المسجل باسم السباح أحمد القضماني والبالغ 1:04.32 دقيقة، والذي تحقق خلال دورة ألعاب التضامن الإسلامي عام 2005، ليحطم الرقم الوطني بعد نحو عقدين من الزمن.
من جانبه، عبّر السباح السابق أحمد القضماني عن فخره بالإنجاز الجديد، مشيداً بإصرار السباح سلطان العتيبي وجهوده المتواصلة، ومؤكداً دعمه له في مشواره الرياضي. وقال القضماني عبر حسابه الرسمي بمنصة إكس: «فخور جداً برقم المملكة الجديد وما حققه سلطان العتيبي بعد المثابرة والإصرار، والآن بعد أكثر من 20 سنة تحطم الرقم. تبقى فقط رقم باسمي واليوم عندما باركت لسلطان بلغته بأني متحمس لسماع خبر تحطيمه لرقم الـ50م. كل التوفيق سلطان».
ويشير هذا الإنجاز إلى تحسن ملحوظ في أداء السباحة السعودية خلال السنوات الأخيرة، في سياق الجهود المبذولة لتطوير المواهب الرياضية وتعزيز المشاركة في الألعاب الفردية.

The Saudi swimmer Sultan Al-Otaibi has achieved a new milestone in his sports career by setting a new Saudi record in the 100-meter breaststroke for the open category during his participation in the AP Race international open championship held in the British capital, London.
Al-Otaibi finished the race with a time of 1:03.63 minutes, surpassing the previous record held by swimmer Ahmad Al-Qudmani, which was 1:04.32 minutes, achieved during the Islamic Solidarity Games in 2005, thus breaking the national record after nearly two decades.
For his part, former swimmer Ahmad Al-Qudmani expressed his pride in the new achievement, praising the determination of swimmer Sultan Al-Otaibi and his continuous efforts, and affirming his support for him in his sports journey. Al-Qudmani said via his official account on X platform: “I am very proud of the new record for the Kingdom and what Sultan Al-Otaibi has achieved after perseverance and determination, and now after more than 20 years, the record has been broken. Only my record remains, and today when I congratulated Sultan, I told him that I am excited to hear the news of him breaking the 50m record. Best of luck, Sultan.”
This achievement indicates a noticeable improvement in Saudi swimming performance in recent years, in the context of efforts made to develop sports talents and enhance participation in individual sports.
