The management of Al-Ettifaq Club issued an official statement announcing the inability of the first team’s football delegation to travel to the Iraqi city of Erbil, in order to participate in the scheduled match against Erbil SC as part of the Gulf Champions League. The club clarified in its statement that it submitted an official request to the Gulf Football Federation to postpone the match, based on a set of justifications and positive reasons that were detailed in the letter sent. The management indicated that this request came after careful study and continuous coordination to ensure the safety and stability of the team.
Despite the ongoing efforts and diligent follow-up by the Al-Ettifaq management, with direct support and assistance from the Saudi Football Federation, the club received an official response of rejection from the organizing committee, which confirmed its insistence on holding the match at the originally scheduled time without any changes. Based on this response, Al-Ettifaq Club firmly announced the impossibility of its delegation being present in Iraqi territory to play the match at the scheduled time, due to the surrounding circumstances and coordination with the relevant authorities that prevented the completion of travel procedures.
In conclusion, the Saudi club's management reiterated its full commitment to the request for postponement, issuing a call to the Gulf Football Federation to reconsider this decision and to address the situation in accordance with the flexible rules and regulations followed in such emergency cases, ensuring the interest and safety of all parties involved in the Gulf Championship.
