Our national Saudi team has qualified for the final of the "Gulf Cup 27" with merit and deserving, defeating their Qatari counterpart in a penalty shootout (3 - 2), after a goalless draw in the original and extra time, in the match that brought them together in the semi-finals of the tournament currently held in Jeddah.
The match witnessed a strong start from the Green team; as they initiated the offensive threat with a shot from Feras Al-Breikan that was deflected by the Qatari defender Pedro to a corner kick, which Abdulilah Al-Omari rose to and headed just past the post. Our team returned to threaten the Qatari goal with a shot from Saleh Abu Al-Shamat that the goalkeeper saved with difficulty, and Sultan Mandash nearly opened the scoring after penetrating the Qatari defense and firing a powerful shot that Mishal Barshim cleared. On the other hand, the Qatari team responded with an organized attack in which Ahmed Fathi sent in a cross, but Muteb Al-Harbi excelled in clearing it at the right moment.
The Green team continued their dominance in the second half; and the first minutes of it saw a joint rise between Abdulilah Al-Omari and goalkeeper Mahmoud Abu Nida, prompting the medical staff to intervene to treat them before they continued the match. Feras Al-Breikan maintained his brilliance with a powerful shot that the goalkeeper turned into a corner kick, and from a defensive error, Qatari Edmilson Junior snatched the ball and shot it powerfully past the post. After 7 minutes of added time were counted, the Portuguese referee João Pinheiro announced the end of the original time with a goalless draw, extending the match to extra time.
In the extra time, Abdullah Al-Hamdan nearly shook the net with a header that went past the goalkeeper, but Khokhi Boualam cleared it off the goal line. This was followed by a shot from substitute Mohammed Al-Qahtani that was saved by Jassim Jaber, then Al-Hamdan took another shot that hit the hand of the Qatari defender without the referee calling anything, leading both sides to a penalty shootout.
Luck smiled on our national team after a remarkable performance from goalkeeper Mohammed Al-Owais, who saved two penalty kicks from Jassim Jaber and Khokhi Boualam (who took his kick again and was saved by Al-Owais once more), while Almoez Ali sent his kick over the crossbar, and Edmilson and Ahmed Al-Janahi scored for Qatar.
On the Saudi side, Abdullah Al-Hamdan and Mohammed Kanno successfully found the net, while Hassan Tambakti and Feras Al-Breikan missed their kicks, before Mukhtar Ali successfully sealed the matter by scoring the fifth kick, leading the Green team to victory with a score of (3 - 2) and advancing to the grand final.
