The Ghana Football Association announced today (Thursday) the termination of its contract with the "Black Stars" coach Carlos Queiroz, following a disastrous start in the qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
Statement from the Ghanaian Association
The Ghana Football Association stated in a release on its official website: "The Ghana Football Association and Carlos Queiroz have agreed to mutually terminate the contract signed between them, following discussions conducted in a spirit of mutual respect."
The statement added: "Despite the difficulty of this decision, it was made out of our concern for the interest of Ghana, as ending the professional relationship is the best option under the current circumstances."
First term during the World Cup
The veteran coach, who is 73 years old, had managed the Ghana national team during the 2026 World Cup, leading them to the Round of 32, before being eliminated from the tournament with a defeat against Colombia by a score of 1-0.
Queiroz departs again after two matches
The Portuguese Queiroz returned to lead Ghana last September, but his second term lasted only two official matches, as he departed after losses to Ivory Coast 2-0 and Gambia 4-2 in the qualifiers for the Africa Cup of Nations.
