Legal advisor Dr. Othman Abdulwahab Othman warned of the dangers of re-circulating old or out-of-context media clips and using them on social media platforms in a way that suggests a connection to current events or situations, emphasizing that such practices may lead to regulatory and legal responsibilities.

In a special interview with "Okaz," he explained that the regulations governing media work require media outlets and platforms to adhere to accuracy and credibility, and to refrain from publishing or promoting misleading or inaccurate information that could influence public opinion or harm societal peace. He pointed to what is stated in Article 5 of the Audio-Visual Media System in this regard, along with what the Saudi Football Federation's Disciplinary and Ethics Regulations include regarding violations related to defamation, insult, and incitement in the sports community.

He indicated that Article (50) of the regulations includes financial penalties that may reach up to 100,000 riyals, depending on the type of violation, the entity committing it, and the circumstances surrounding it.

Othman stressed that repurposing the names of established institutions and newspapers or their logos in misleading or partial content does not change the reality of the content nor grant the publisher immunity from responsibility, calling for verification of the history, context, and source of materials before re-publishing them, and taking necessary regulatory measures to protect professional rights and media institutions from any exploitation or deception.
