هاجم الكاتب الصحفي وليد أبو ملحة، الطريقة التي تم بها تداول استقالة رئيس الاتحاد السعودي لكرة القدم ياسر المسحل، واصفًا المشهد بأنه «مسرحية فانتازية عبثية» تكشف هشاشة المنظومة الرياضية، وقال يجب أن تورد فترة الـ7 سنوات التي قضاها المسحل في سدة رئاسة اتحاد القدم، في بند «للنسيان»، مؤكداً أن لحظة الاستقالة كان من المفترض أن تفتح باب نقاش جاد حول مستقبل الكرة السعودية، لكن ما حدث كان عكس ذلك تماماً.
وانتقد الكاتب تحول الساحة الإعلامية والافتراضية إلى «حراج»، حيث انشغل الجميع بترشيح الأسماء وفق الأهواء وقال: «هذا يُرشح لاعبه السابق المفضل، وذاك يدفع برئيس ناديه المحبوب، وثالث يبحث عن ابن مدينته، ورابع من أهل التطبيل يذكر محاسن ولي نعمته»، متهماً الجميع بغياب معايير «الكفاءة الإدارية والرؤية الإستراتيجية والحوكمة الرياضية».
وأكد أبو ملحة أن «التعصب والتطبيل» حضرا بقوة وغاب أي بيان رسمي يوضح الآلية التي يتم عبرها تحديد موعد الجمعية العمومية وفق النظام الأساسي، ومعايير تنصيب الرئيس الجديد، وتساءل أبو ملحة:«هل ما نراه رأس جبل الجليد»؟.. مجيباً: «بلا أدنى شك.. ما نراه نتيجة طبيعية لهشاشة مؤسسية مزمنة».
ووصف ما يحدث بـ«فيلم كوميدي أسود بامتياز»، مشيراً إلى أنه بدلاً من سؤال: «كيف نعيد بناء منظومة تنتج منتخبات تنافسية؟»، بعد الخروج المخيب من مونديال 2026، انشغل الجميع بـ«من سيكون الرئيس القادم».
Journalist Walid Abu Malha criticized the way the resignation of the President of the Saudi Football Federation, Yasser Al-Mashel, was handled, describing the scene as a "fantasy absurd play" that reveals the fragility of the sports system. He stated that the seven years Al-Mashel spent at the helm of the football federation should be categorized under "to be forgotten," emphasizing that the moment of resignation should have opened the door for a serious discussion about the future of Saudi football, but what happened was the exact opposite.
He criticized the transformation of the media and virtual arena into a "flea market," where everyone was preoccupied with nominating names based on personal preferences, saying: "This one nominates his favorite former player, that one pushes for his beloved club president, a third looks for someone from his hometown, and a fourth, who is among the cheerleaders, mentions the virtues of his benefactor," accusing everyone of the absence of standards for "administrative competence, strategic vision, and sports governance."
Abu Malha confirmed that "sectarianism and cheerleading" were present in abundance, and there was a lack of any official statement clarifying the mechanism for determining the date of the general assembly according to the bylaws, and the criteria for appointing the new president. He questioned: "Is what we see the tip of the iceberg?" Answering: "Without a doubt... what we see is a natural result of chronic institutional fragility."
He described what is happening as "a black comedy film par excellence," pointing out that instead of asking: "How do we rebuild a system that produces competitive national teams?" after the disappointing exit from the 2026 World Cup, everyone was preoccupied with "who will be the next president."
