ودخل رونالدو المباراة وهو على بعد هدف واحد من تحقيق إنجازين تاريخيين؛ الأول أن يصبح أول لاعب يسجل في ست نسخ مختلفة من كأس العالم، والثاني معادلة رقم الأسطورة إيزيبيو كأفضل هداف للبرتغال في تاريخ المونديال برصيد 9 أهداف.
لكن قائد المنتخب البرتغالي عجز عن ترك بصمته في اللقاء، ليؤجل تحقيق إنجازيه إلى الجولات القادمة، في أمسية لم تكن على قدر التطلعات بالنسبة للنجم المخضرم.

Ronaldo entered the match just one goal away from achieving two historic milestones; the first being the first player to score in six different World Cups, and the second equaling the legendary Eusebio's record as Portugal's all-time top scorer in World Cup history with 9 goals.
However, the captain of the Portuguese national team failed to leave his mark on the match, postponing his achievements to the upcoming rounds, in an evening that did not meet expectations for the veteran star.
