تنطلق غدا (الخميس) منافسات كأس العالم 2026 لكرة القدم، في نسخة استثنائية تُقام للمرة الأولى في تاريخ البطولة بتنظيم مشترك بين ثلاث دول: الولايات المتحدة، وكندا، والمكسيك، وتستمر حتى 19 يوليو القادم.
وستتجه أنظار العالم إلى ملعب أزتيكا الشهير في العاصمة المكسيكية مع صافرة البداية، حيث يلتقي المنتخب المكسيكي المستضيف مع جنوب إفريقيا في افتتاح منافسات المجموعة الأولى، وبهذا يصبح «الأزتيكا» أول ملعب في التاريخ يستضيف مباريات كأس العالم في ثلاث نسخ مختلفة بعد مونديالي 1970 و1986.
وتراهن اللجنة المنظمة على حفل افتتاح ضخم يسبق المباراة بـ90 دقيقة، يمزج بين العروض الموسيقية والاستعراضية التي تعكس التراث اللاتيني والمكسيكي، بمشاركة فنانين من ثقافات مختلفة. وستنتقل الاحتفالات لاحقاً إلى تورونتو ولوس أنجلوس مع انطلاقة المباريات في كندا والولايات المتحدة.
أكبر مونديال في التاريخ
وتشهد نسخة 2026 نقطة تحول جذرية في تاريخ البطولة بمشاركة 48 منتخباً للمرة الأولى بدلاً من 32، بزيادة 16 منتخباً. وستُقام 104 مباريات على مدى 40 يوماً بنظام جديد يوزع المنتخبات على 12 مجموعة، يتأهل منها الأول والثاني من كل مجموعة إضافة إلى أفضل 8 منتخبات تحتل المركز الثالث.
ويُقام النهائي يوم الأحد 19 يوليو 2026 على ملعب «ميتلايف» في ولاية نيوجيرسي الأمريكية، ليكون البطل قد خاض 8 مباريات بدلاً من 7 في النظام السابق.
حضور عربي
ويسجل العرب حضوراً قياسياً في المونديال بثمانية منتخبات للمرة الأولى: قطر، مصر، المغرب، الجزائر، تونس، العراق، السعودية، والأردن الذي يشارك لأول مرة في تاريخه.
ويستهل المنتخب القطري مشواره بمواجهة سويسرا يوم 13 يونيو على ملعب «ليفايز» في سان فرانسيسكو، فيما يبدأ المغرب رحلته في اليوم ذاته بمواجهة البرازيل على ملعب ميامي. وتتوالى مواجهات العرب: تونس × السويد 14 يونيو، مصر × بلجيكا والسعودية × الأوروغواي 15 يونيو، ثم العراق × النرويج والجزائر × الأرجنتين والأردن × النمسا 16 يونيو.
المرشحون للقب
وتدخل الأرجنتين حاملة اللقب والمرشحة الأولى بقيادة ميسي رحلة الدفاع عن لقبها بمواجهة الجزائر، كما تبرز إسبانيا بطلة أوروبا 2024، وألمانيا، وفرنسا وصيفة النسخة الماضية، والبرازيل الأكثر تتويجاً بـ5 ألقاب، والبرتغال الباحثة عن لقبها العالمي الأول.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will kick off tomorrow (Thursday), in an exceptional edition held for the first time in the history of the tournament, organized jointly by three countries: the United States, Canada, and Mexico, and will continue until July 19.
The world's attention will turn to the famous Azteca Stadium in Mexico City at the sound of the starting whistle, where the host Mexican national team will face South Africa in the opening match of Group A, making the "Azteca" the first stadium in history to host World Cup matches in three different editions after the 1970 and 1986 tournaments.
The organizing committee is betting on a grand opening ceremony 90 minutes before the match, blending musical and performance shows that reflect Latin and Mexican heritage, featuring artists from various cultures. The celebrations will later move to Toronto and Los Angeles as the matches begin in Canada and the United States.
The largest World Cup in history
The 2026 edition marks a radical turning point in the tournament's history with the participation of 48 teams for the first time instead of 32, an increase of 16 teams. A total of 104 matches will be held over 40 days under a new system that distributes the teams into 12 groups, with the top two from each group qualifying along with the best 8 teams that finish third.
The final will take place on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, meaning the champion will have played 8 matches instead of 7 under the previous system.
Arab presence
The Arabs will have a record presence in the World Cup with eight teams for the first time: Qatar, Egypt, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan, which is participating for the first time in its history.
The Qatari national team will begin its journey against Switzerland on June 13 at Levi's Stadium in San Francisco, while Morocco will start its campaign on the same day against Brazil at Miami Stadium. The Arab matches will continue: Tunisia vs. Sweden on June 14, Egypt vs. Belgium and Saudi Arabia vs. Uruguay on June 15, followed by Iraq vs. Norway, Algeria vs. Argentina, and Jordan vs. Austria on June 16.
Title contenders
Argentina, the defending champion and top contender led by Messi, will begin its title defense against Algeria, while Spain, the 2024 European champion, Germany, France, the runner-up from the last edition, Brazil, the most decorated with 5 titles, and Portugal, seeking its first world title, also stand out.
