ويتساوى النجم سالم الدوسري والمهاجم السابق سامي الجابر في «صدارة» قائمة هدافي المنتخب السعودي في تاريخ كأس العالم، برصيد 3 أهداف لكل منهما، إذ نجح الدوسري في تسجيل أهدافه في نسختي 2018 و2022، ليصبح على بعد هدف واحد فقط للانفراد بالصدارة، فيما سجل الجابر أهدافه في نسخ 1994 و1998 و2006.
ويعتبر الهدف الذي أحرزه الدوسري في شباك الأرجنتين في مونديال 2022، وساهم في فوز السعودية 2-1 على بطل كأس العالم، هدفاً تاريخياً.
