أعلنت إدارة نادي الخليج التعاقد مع المدرب البرتغالي جوزيه غوميز لقيادة الفريق الأول لكرة القدم لمدة موسمين، استعداداً للموسم الرياضي المقبل في دوري روشن للمحترفين، وذلك بعد انتهاء المرحلة القصيرة التي قاد خلالها الأوروغوياني جوستافو بويت الفريق بصورة إسعافية حتى نهاية الموسم.
ويملك غوميز مسيرة تدريبية طويلة تنقّل خلالها بين تجارب أوروبية وعربية وآسيوية عدة، إذ بدأ مشواره في البرتغال قبل أن يخوض محطات متعددة أبرزها مع بني ياس الإماراتي والتعاون السعودي، إلى جانب تجارب في تركيا والمجر وإسبانيا.
كما تولى تدريب الأهلي السعودي وحقق معه السوبر السعودي عام 2016 وفريق الزمالك المصري، ونجح معه في تحقيق بطولات محلية وقارية، ما عزز حضوره واحداً من أبرز المدربين البرتغاليين العاملين في المنطقة العربية خلال السنوات الأخيرة.
ودرب غوميز نادي الفتح خلال الموسم الحالي، بعدما نجح في تحسين نتائج الفريق ولفت الأنظار بعمله الفني، إذ ارتبط اسمه حينها بالاستمرار وتجديد عقده، قبل أن تتجه إدارة الخليج للتعاقد معه لقيادة الفريق في المرحلة المقبلة.
The management of Al-Khaleej Club announced the signing of Portuguese coach José Gomes to lead the first football team for two seasons, in preparation for the upcoming sports season in the Roshan Professional League, following the brief period during which Uruguayan Gustavo Poyet led the team on an emergency basis until the end of the season.
Gomes has a long coaching career, having moved between several European, Arab, and Asian experiences. He began his journey in Portugal before going through multiple stages, most notably with the Emirati club Bani Yas and the Saudi club Al-Taawoun, along with experiences in Turkey, Hungary, and Spain.
He also coached Al-Ahli Saudi Club, winning the Saudi Super Cup in 2016, and the Egyptian club Zamalek, where he succeeded in achieving local and continental championships, which solidified his presence as one of the most prominent Portuguese coaches working in the Arab region in recent years.
Gomes coached Al-Fateh Club during the current season, having succeeded in improving the team's results and drawing attention with his technical work. His name was then associated with the continuation and renewal of his contract before the management of Al-Khaleej decided to sign him to lead the team in the upcoming phase.
