وكان مغربل قد أشاد خلال حديثه بإنجازات عدد من الأندية السعودية، من بينها تتويج الأهلي بلقب دوري أبطال آسيا للنخبة، ووصول الشباب والنصر إلى أدوار متقدمة في البطولات القارية، دون أن يتطرق إلى مشاركة الهلال العالمية التي عدّها كثيرون أبرز حضور دولي لنادٍ سعودي في السنوات الأخيرة.
الجماهير الهلالية رأت أن ما قدمه الفريق أمام ريال مدريد ومانشستر سيتي، ووصوله إلى ربع نهائي مونديال الأندية، كان يفترض أن يُذكر بوصفه نموذجًا عمليًا لتحقيق أحد أهم أهداف مشروع الاستقطاب، والمتمثل في «تعزيز الظهور الدولي ورفع مستوى الحضور العالمي».
واعتبرت الجماهير أن تجاهل هذا الإنجاز في مؤتمر رسمي يتناول أثر المشروع السعودي خارجيًا، فتح باب التساؤلات حول أسباب غياب الإشارة إلى مشاركة وصفت بأنها من أكثر المشاركات السعودية تأثيرًا على المستوى الدولي.
