أبدى مدرب المنتخب العراقي غراهام أرنولد، فخره بأداء لاعبيه رغم خسارتهم أمام الأردن (0 - 1) في الدور ربع النهائي وتوديع بطولة كأس العرب، خلال المواجهة التي جرت اليوم، على استاد المدينة التعليمية.
وقال المدرب، خلال المؤتمر الصحفي الذي عقب اللقاء: «المنتخب العراقي لم يبدأ المباراة كما يجب في الشوط الثاني، وأتاح الفرصة لمنتخب الأردن للسيطرة والضغط، وخلق بعض فرص التسجيل»، مضيفا: «في الشوط الثاني دخلنا في أجواء المباراة وسيطرنا بالاستحواذ الذي وصل لنسبة 70%، دون التمكن من ترجمة الفرص التي حصلنا عليها لأهداف».
وأوضح أن لاعبي المنتخب العراقي بذلوا قصارى جهدهم في النصف الثاني من اللقاء، وتحكموا في المجريات، إلا أن بعض التفاصيل الصغيرة هي التي رجحت كفة منتخب الأردن، والذي تمكن من الخروج بنتيجة الفوز ليحجز مقعده في الدور نصف النهائي.
وأشاد مدرب المنتخب العراقي بمستوى التنظيم في بطولة كأس العرب من جميع النواحي، مشيرا إلى أن جميع المنتخبات شعرت بالأجواء الجميلة التي انعكست على التنافس في المباريات.
كما لفت المدرب إلى أنهم خرجوا بالعديد من المكاسب كون البطولة كانت فرصة مثالية لمنتخب العراق، من أجل التحضير لخوض منافسات الملحق العالمي المؤهل لمونديال 2026، والذي سيقام في شهر مارس القادم.
وختم أرنولد، تصريحه خلال المؤتمر الصحفي، بالتأكيد على أن البطولة كانت أيضا فرصة لبعض الوجوه الجديدة الذين أتيحت لهم فرصة المشاركة في مباريات تنافسية من الدرجة العالية، ساهمت في جاهزيتهم لخوض الاستحقاقات القادمة التي سيخوضها المنتخب العراقي.
Iraqi national team coach Graham Arnold expressed his pride in his players' performance despite their loss to Jordan (0 - 1) in the quarter-finals and their exit from the Arab Cup, during the match that took place today at the Education City Stadium.
Arnold said during the press conference following the match: "The Iraqi team did not start the second half as it should have, allowing the Jordanian team to control and apply pressure, creating some scoring opportunities," adding: "In the second half, we got into the flow of the game and controlled possession, which reached 70%, but we were unable to convert the chances we had into goals."
He explained that the Iraqi players gave their all in the second half of the match and controlled the proceedings, but some small details tipped the balance in favor of the Jordanian team, which managed to secure the win and book its place in the semi-finals.
The Iraqi coach praised the level of organization in the Arab Cup from all aspects, noting that all teams felt the beautiful atmosphere that reflected on the competition in the matches.
He also pointed out that they gained many benefits as the tournament was an ideal opportunity for the Iraqi team to prepare for the global playoff for the 2026 World Cup, which will take place next March.
Arnold concluded his statement during the press conference by emphasizing that the tournament was also an opportunity for some new faces who were given the chance to participate in high-level competitive matches, contributing to their readiness for the upcoming challenges that the Iraqi team will face.
