تُفكّر سلطات مدينة ريو دي جانيرو في بيع ملعب ماراكانا التاريخي، أحد أشهر الملاعب في العالم ومسرح انتصارات المنتخب البرازيلي العديدة، وفقاً لتقرير «ليكيب» الفرنسيّة.
يأتي هذا القرار في ظل ديون كبيرة على المدينة تجاه الحكومة الفيدرالية، حيث يُنظر إلى عملية البيع كوسيلة لتخفيف الأعباء المالية. يُذكر أن الملعب الذي يحمل اسم الحي الذي يقع فيه افتُتح عام 1950 استعداداً لكأس العالم، وشهد المباراة النهائية بين البرازيل وأوروغواي بحضور جمهور قياسي بلغ 199,854 متفرجاً، ما جعله رمزاً تاريخيّاً لكرة القدم البرازيلية.
كما استضاف الملعب نهائي كأس العالم 2014 وحفل الافتتاح والختام لدورة الألعاب الأولمبية 2016 وكوبا أمريكا 1989، 2019، و2021.
The authorities of the city of Rio de Janeiro are considering selling the historic Maracanã Stadium, one of the most famous stadiums in the world and the stage for many victories of the Brazilian national team, according to a report by the French newspaper "L'Équipe."
This decision comes amid significant debts the city owes to the federal government, with the sale being viewed as a way to alleviate financial burdens. It is worth noting that the stadium, named after the neighborhood in which it is located, opened in 1950 in preparation for the World Cup and hosted the final match between Brazil and Uruguay in front of a record crowd of 199,854 spectators, making it a historic symbol of Brazilian football.
The stadium also hosted the final of the 2014 World Cup and the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2016 Olympic Games, as well as the Copa América in 1989, 2019, and 2021.
