حجز حامل اللقب (الاتحاد) مقعده في ربع نهائي كأس خادم الحرمين الشريفين، عقب تجاوزه متصدر دوري روشن للمحترفين (النصر) بنتيجة 2-1 على ملعب «الأول بارك» بالرياض، في مباراة شهدت لعب الاتحاد معظم مجريات الشوط الثاني منقوصاً لاعباً بعد طرد أحمد الجليدان.
منذ الثواني الأولى لانطلاق اللقاء كشف الاتحاد عن نواياه الهجومية بفضل التحركات المميزة للثلاثي؛ حسام عوار، وروجر، وموسى ديابي، وأمامهم القائد كريم بنزيما.
وقبل أن تمضي الدقائق العشر الأولى تدخل مدافع النصر مارتينيز وأنقذ فريقه من فرصة هدف محقق من أمام نغولو كانتي.
وبعدها بدقائق قليلة انطلق موسى ديابي قاطعاً مسافة كبيرة بسرعة عالية، وقدم تمريرة رائعة للنجم كريم بنزيما الذي وضعها داخل الشباك مسجلاً هدف التقدم الاتحادي.
الرد النصراوي لم يتأخر كثيراً عندما استغل أنجيلو تمريرة كريستيانو رونالدو، ووضعها في سقف المرمى مسجلاً هدف التعادل.
ورغم العودة النصراوية إلا أن أخطاء دفاعاتهم لم تتوقف، وعوّل لاعبو المدرب جيسوس كثيراً على مصيدة التسلل التي كسرها الاتحاديون في الثواني الأخيرة من الشوط بتمريرة رائعة استغلها حسام عوار ووضعها داخل الشباك.
ومع انطلاقة الشوط الثاني شهدت المباراة تحولاً كبيراً بخروج مدافع الاتحاد أحمد الجليدان بالبطاقة الحمراء بعد تدخله القوي على لاعب النصر أيمن يحيى، بعدها تحولت الأفضلية للجانب النصراوي وأهدر كومان ورونالدو وساديو ماني عدداً من الفرص السانحة للتسجيل، كما تألق حارس الاتحاد رايكوفيتش في التصدي لفرص كبيرة كانت أخطرها رأسية ساديو ماني التي أخرجها بروعة كبيرة.
وواصل نجوم الاتحاد تماسكهم الدفاعي حتى أطلق حكم المباراة صافرته معلناً نهايتها بفوز «العميد».

A few minutes later, Moussa Diaby made a long run at high speed and delivered a brilliant pass to star Karim Benzema, who put it in the net, scoring the opening goal for Al-Ittihad.
The response from Al-Nassr did not take long when Angelo capitalized on a pass from Cristiano Ronaldo and placed it into the top corner of the net, scoring the equalizer.
