اختُتمت اليوم (الأربعاء) التصفيات الأولية لبطولة العالم للبلياردو 2025، التي تستضيفها محافظة جدة للمرة الثانية على التوالي، بمشاركة 128 لاعباً من نخبة نجوم اللعبة، يمثلون أكثر من 40 دولة، وتستمر منافساتها حتى 26 يوليو الجاري في «الصالات الخضراء»، بتنظيم مشترك بين الاتحاد السعودي للبلياردو والسنوكر وشركة «ماتشروم»، وتحت إشراف وزارة الرياضة.
وشهدت منافسات اليوم إقامة 64 مواجهة موزعة على مجموعتين (الفائزين– الخاسرين)، تأهل على إثرها 64 لاعباً إلى الدور الثاني، ومن المقرر أن تُقام غداً (الخميس) مباريات دور الـ64، ودور الـ32 بنظام «11 شوطاً» لكل مواجهة، على أن تنطلق أولى المباريات عند الساعة الواحدة ظهراً.
وشهدت التصفيات مفاجآت من العيار الثقيل، أبرزها خروج المصنف الثاني عالمياً، السنغافوري ألويسيوس ياب، بعد خسارته أمام الفلبيني إيه جي ماناس بنتيجة 9-6. فيما واصل الأمريكي فيدور غورست، بطل العالم لنسختي 2019 و2024، تفوقه بفوزه على الإيطالي فرانشيسكو كانديلا بنتيجة 9-5، وخسر اللاعب السعودي محمد باعباد مواجهته أمام النمساوي ماكس ليشنر بنتيجة 9-1، بينما تفوق بطل العالم لعام 2017، الفلبيني كارلو بيايدو، على مواطنه لي فان كورتيزا بنتيجة 9-4، كما تمكن السعـودي فهد الضعيان من التأهل للدور ذاته «الـ 64» بعد فوزه على زميله خالد الغامدي 9-6.
كما ودّع الألماني جوشوا فيلر، بطل العالم لعام 2018، البطولة بعد خسارته من الفنلندي ياني أوسكي بنتيجة 9-5، فيما تفوق البولندي فويتشيك شيفتشيك على الألماني المخضرم ثورستن هوهمان، بطل العالم لنسختي 2013 و2003، بنتيجة 9-3.
واختتمت المفاجآت بخروج التايواني كو بينغ يي، بطل العالم مرتين، بعد خسارته أمام الفلبيني بيرني ريغالاريو، ليواصل الأخير سلسلة المفاجآت الفلبينية في البطولة.

The preliminary qualifiers for the 2025 World Pool Championship concluded today (Wednesday) in Jeddah, which is hosting the event for the second consecutive time, with the participation of 128 players from the elite stars of the game, representing more than 40 countries. The competitions will continue until July 26 at the "Green Halls," organized jointly by the Saudi Billiards and Snooker Federation and Matchroom, under the supervision of the Ministry of Sports.
Today's competitions featured 64 matches distributed across two groups (winners–losers), resulting in 64 players qualifying for the second round. The Round of 64 and Round of 32 matches are scheduled for tomorrow (Thursday) under the "11 frames" system for each match, with the first match starting at 1 PM.
The qualifiers witnessed major surprises, the most notable being the exit of the world number two, Singaporean Aloysius Yapp, after losing to Filipino AJ Manas with a score of 9-6. Meanwhile, American Fedor Gorst, the world champion for 2019 and 2024, continued his dominance by defeating Italian Francesco Candela with a score of 9-5. Saudi player Mohammed Baabed lost his match against Austrian Max Lechner with a score of 9-1, while the 2017 world champion, Filipino Carlo Biado, triumphed over his compatriot Lee Van Corteza with a score of 9-4. Additionally, Saudi Fahd Al-Dhayan qualified for the same round "64" after defeating his teammate Khalid Al-Ghamdi 9-6.
The German Joshua Filler, the world champion of 2018, also exited the tournament after losing to Finnish Jani Oskari with a score of 9-5, while Polish Wojciech Shefczyk defeated seasoned German Thorsten Hohmann, the world champion of 2013 and 2003, with a score of 9-3.
The surprises concluded with the exit of Taiwanese Ko Ping-yi, a two-time world champion, after losing to Filipino Bernie Regalario, allowing the latter to continue the series of Filipino surprises in the tournament.
