Sami Al-Jaber, the former coach of Al-Hilal, denied the rumors regarding his attempts to exclude player Salman Al-Faraj from the team during his coaching period in the 2013–2014 season. This came in a detailed response via the "X" platform to Al-Faraj's statements, in which he referred to a potential swap deal that almost ended his career with the club in its early days.
Al-Faraj, the former captain of Al-Hilal and currently a player for Neom FC, mentioned in a television interview on the "Nadina" program that Al-Hilal was on the verge of completing a swap deal that would see him and Nawaf Al-Abed move to Al-Shabab in exchange for signing Hassan Muath, during the period when Sami Al-Jaber was coaching the team.
During the interview, Al-Faraj revealed that he was "not 100% sure" about Al-Jaber's role in the potential deal.
In response to what was said in the interview, Al-Jaber provided a detailed clarification through his official account today (Wednesday), confirming that the proposed deal came from the then-president of Al-Shabab, Khalid Al-Baltan, during negotiations for the transfer of striker Nasser Al-Shamrani to Al-Hilal.
Al-Jaber stated: "At the time we had finalized the agreement with Al-Shabab for Al-Shamrani's transfer, Al-Baltan made an additional offer for the transfer of Hassan Muath and Walid Abdullah to Al-Hilal in exchange for Nawaf Al-Abed and Salman Al-Faraj. I did not comment on the offer nor did I support it; I simply conveyed it to the management."
Al-Jaber explained that the priority of the coaching staff at that time was to sign Al-Shamrani, and he referred the administrative offer to the club president, Prince Abdulrahman bin Musaid. He added: "I was not at all in favor of the idea of letting go of Salman Al-Faraj or Nawaf Al-Abed, and this position was clear during a meeting that included the president and some members of the honor committee."
In his direct response to Al-Faraj, Al-Jaber said: "Thank you for speaking frankly and for saying that you are not sure about the accuracy of the information. If you had spoken with certainty, I would not have felt the need to respond to what could be considered slander. However, since it came from you personally, it was my duty to clarify."
Al-Jaber cited instances from that same season that prove his support for Al-Faraj and Nawaf Al-Abed, including starting Al-Faraj in crucial matches, such as the Riyadh derby against Al-Nasr, and giving him an important role in compensating for the absence of Brazilian professional Thiago Neves at the end of the season. He confirmed: "This cannot happen from a coach who was trying to exclude you from the team."
