Barcelona coach Hans Flick is struggling to learn Spanish, despite being in Spain for about two and a half years, according to the "Barça Reservat" program on Catalonia Radio.
Flick Loses Hope
The report attributed the German coach's difficulty in learning Spanish to his advancing age, as he approaches his sixty-second birthday, which he will celebrate next February.
His inability to express himself in Spanish causes him significant frustration, to the point where he has lost hope of mastering it, despite previous foreign coaches at Barcelona having learned the language.
Barcelona Sees No Problem in His Language Skills
The report noted that Barcelona officials do not necessarily see a problem with Flick not speaking Spanish, as they believe the coach holds between 100 and 120 press conferences each season, and that speaking in Spanish could expose him to embarrassing statements, the use of inappropriate words, or misunderstandings.
Consecutive Losses Increase Pressure
Barcelona, under Flick's leadership, is facing a decline in results recently, having lost to Paris Saint-Germain 2-4 last week in the Champions League, and then suffered another defeat against their traditional rival Real Madrid 1-2 last Sunday in La Liga.
