أكد جياني إنفانتينو، رئيس الاتحاد الدولي لكرة القدم، أن منتخب إيران سيشارك في بطولة كأس العالم القادمة خلال الصيف، وسيخوض مبارياته في الولايات المتحدة كما هو مخطط، رغم التوترات والحرب الجارية في الشرق الأوسط.
وجاء تصريح إنفانتينو، يوم الثلاثاء، خلال حديثه لوكالة «فرانس برس»، وذلك بين شوطي المباراة الودية التي جمعت إيران وكوستاريكا في مدينة أنطاليا جنوب تركيا. وأوضح قائلاً إن الهدف من وجوده هو دعم الحدث، مشيراً إلى قوة المنتخب الإيراني وسعادته بمستواه.
وأضاف أنه التقى باللاعبين والجهاز الفني، مؤكداً أن الأوضاع تسير بشكل طبيعي، وأن المباريات ستقام وفق ما حددته القرعة الرسمية. وكانت إيران قد أبدت رغبتها سابقاً في خوض مباريات الدور الأول في المكسيك بدلاً من الولايات المتحدة.
كما حضر إنفانتينو اللقاء بشكل غير معلن مسبقاً، حيث شوهد في المدرجات قبل انطلاق المباراة، والتقط صوراً مع عدد من مسؤولي الاتحاد الإيراني، بحسب ما أفاد به مراسل وكالة «فرانس برس».
وبحسب الجدول الرسمي للبطولة، من المقرر أن تواجه إيران منتخبات نيوزيلندا وبلجيكا في لوس أنجلوس، قبل أن تلتقي مصر في سياتل ضمن منافسات الدور الأول. ومن المتوقع أيضاً أن تقيم بعثتها معسكرها الرئيسي في مدينة توكسون بولاية أريزونا.
Gianni Infantino, the President of FIFA, confirmed that the Iranian national team will participate in the upcoming World Cup this summer, and will play its matches in the United States as planned, despite the ongoing tensions and war in the Middle East.
Infantino made his statement on Tuesday during an interview with the French news agency "AFP," between the halves of a friendly match between Iran and Costa Rica in Antalya, southern Turkey. He explained that his presence was to support the event, noting the strength of the Iranian team and his happiness with their performance.
He added that he met with the players and coaching staff, confirming that the situation is proceeding normally, and that the matches will take place as determined by the official draw. Iran had previously expressed a desire to play its group stage matches in Mexico instead of the United States.
Infantino also attended the match without prior announcement, as he was seen in the stands before the game started, taking photos with several officials from the Iranian federation, according to what was reported by an AFP correspondent.
According to the official tournament schedule, Iran is set to face New Zealand and Belgium in Los Angeles, before meeting Egypt in Seattle during the group stage. It is also expected that their delegation will hold its main camp in Tucson, Arizona.
