وكانت تقارير صحفية، ذكرت أن المنتخبين البرتغالي والأمريكي سيلعبان مباراة ودية بأتلانتا في مارس 2026، قبل كأس العالم للرجال التي ستقام في الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية وكندا والمكسيك.
وفي حال تم تنظيم هذه المباراة، وشارك فيها رونالدو، ستكون هذه هي أول مباراة له في الولايات المتحدة منذ عام 2014.

وصرح كريستيانو رونالدو أخيراً أن بطولة كأس العالم 2026 ستكون الأخيرة له مع منتخب البرتغال، نظراً لتقدمه في العمر، حيث سيبلغ 41 عاماً حينها.
