أعلن نادي توتنهام هوتسبير الإنجليزي، (الجمعة)، اعتزال حارس مرماه ألفي وايتمان كرة القدم نهائياً، بعمر 27 عاماً فقط.
وقال النادي في بيان عبر موقعه الإلكتروني: «بعد مسيرة استمرت 16 عاماً داخل جدران النادي، قرر خريج أكاديميتنا حارس المرمى ألفي وايتمان إنهاء مسيرته الكروية».
وأضاف البيان: «عقب تتويجه بميدالية الفوز ببطولة الدوري الأوروبي في مايو الماضي، قرر مشجع توتنهام مدى الحياة التوقف عن لعب كرة القدم الاحترافية، وبدء مسيرة جديدة كمصور ومخرج أفلام».
مسيرة متواضعة
انضم وايتمان إلى أكاديمية توتنهام وهو في العاشرة من عمره، وتدرّج في فرق الناشئين حتى خاض أول مباراة له مع الفريق الأول في سن الـ22 خلال مواجهة لودوغوريتس البلغاري في الدوري الأوروبي على ملعب توتنهام هوتسبير في نوفمبر 2020.
وكانت تلك المشاركة الوحيدة له مع الفريق الأول، قبل أن ينتقل في أغسطس 2021 إلى نادي ديجيرفورس السويدي، حيث خاض 34 مباراة خلال 18 شهراً في الدوري السويدي الممتاز.
وفي بداية عام 2023 عاد الحارس الإنجليزي إلى شمال لندن، لكنه أصيب بكسر بالكاحل خلال فترة الإعداد للموسم الجديد، ما استدعى خضوعه لجراحة أبعدته عن الملاعب طوال موسم 2023-2024 تقريباً.
The English club Tottenham Hotspur announced on (Friday) the retirement of their goalkeeper Alfie Whiteman from football at just 27 years old.
The club stated in a statement on its website: "After a 16-year career within the club's walls, our academy graduate goalkeeper Alfie Whiteman has decided to end his football career."
The statement added: "Following his achievement of winning a European League medal last May, the lifelong Tottenham supporter decided to stop playing professional football and start a new career as a photographer and filmmaker."
Modest Career
Whiteman joined the Tottenham academy at the age of ten and progressed through the youth teams until he made his first-team debut at the age of 22 during a match against Bulgarian side Ludogorets in the European League at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in November 2020.
That was his only appearance for the first team, before moving to Swedish club Dalkurd FF in August 2021, where he played 34 matches over 18 months in the Swedish Premier League.
At the beginning of 2023, the English goalkeeper returned to North London, but he suffered an ankle fracture during pre-season preparations, which required him to undergo surgery that kept him off the pitch for almost the entire 2023-2024 season.
