أعلن نادي نيوكاسل يونايتد، المملوك لصندوق الاستثمارات العامة السعودي، أمس (السبت)، تعيين الأسكتلندي روس ويلسون مديراً رياضياً للنادي.
وقال نيوكاسل في بيان عبر موقعه الإلكتروني: «يسرّنا الإعلان عن تعيين روس ويلسون مديراً رياضياً للنادي، وسيتولى الإشراف على الإستراتيجية الرياضية، والتطوير الفني، والتعاقدات في فرق الرجال والسيدات، إضافة إلى أكاديمية النادي، بالتعاون الوثيق مع القيادة الفنية والفريق التنفيذي».
قبل انضمامه إلى فورست في 2023، كان روس مديراً رياضياً في نادي جلاسكو رينجرز، وساعدهم في الفوز بأول لقب دوري لهم منذ عشر سنوات، وكأس أسكتلندا، ومقعد في نهائي الدوري الأوروبي.
من جانبه قال روس ويلسون لموقع نيوكاسل: «أنا سعيد للغاية بوجودي هنا في نيوكاسل يونايتد، إنه نادٍ مميز، وأتفهم تماماً شغف وطموح وتوقعات مشجعينا الرائعين، إضافة إلى طموح ورغبة مالكي النادي في مواصلة تطوير وبناء نيوكاسل يونايتد أقوى وأكثر قوة».
وتابع: «كانت محادثاتي مع الإدارة إيجابية للغاية، كما كنت على تواصل منتظم مع مدرب الفريق إيدي هاو، والرئيس التنفيذي ديفيد هوبكنسون، إن الثقة والتماسك والتناغم الذي نبنيه قوي بالفعل، ونؤمن بأن اتحادنا كفريق واحد سيكون بالغ الأهمية في مواصلتنا دفع النادي قدماً معاً».
وختم: «أنا متحمس للعمل مع الجميع في نيوكاسل، هناك بالفعل عمل ممتاز يُنجز هنا، بدءاً من الفريق الأول وصولاً إلى فريق السيدات والأكاديمية، وهدفي هو البناء على ذلك، وتعزيز هياكلنا مع مرور الوقت، والعمل مع فريقنا الإداري لخلق بيئات تُمكّن اللاعبين والموظفين من مواصلة النجاح».
Newcastle United, owned by the Saudi Public Investment Fund, announced yesterday (Saturday) the appointment of Scottish Ross Wilson as the club's sporting director.
Newcastle stated in a release on its website: "We are pleased to announce the appointment of Ross Wilson as the club's sporting director, and he will oversee the sporting strategy, technical development, and contracts for both the men's and women's teams, in addition to the club's academy, in close collaboration with the coaching staff and the executive team."
Before joining Forest in 2023, Ross was the sporting director at Glasgow Rangers, where he helped them win their first league title in ten years, the Scottish Cup, and a spot in the UEFA Europa League final.
For his part, Ross Wilson told the Newcastle website: "I am extremely happy to be here at Newcastle United; it is a special club, and I fully understand the passion, ambition, and expectations of our wonderful fans, as well as the ambition and desire of the club's owners to continue developing and building Newcastle United stronger and more powerful."
He continued: "My conversations with the management have been very positive, and I have been in regular contact with the team's coach Eddie Howe and CEO David Hopkinson. The trust, cohesion, and harmony we are building is indeed strong, and we believe that our unity as one team will be crucial in continuing to push the club forward together."
He concluded: "I am excited to work with everyone at Newcastle; there is already excellent work being done here, from the first team to the women's team and the academy, and my goal is to build on that, enhance our structures over time, and work with our management team to create environments that empower players and staff to continue succeeding."
