أعلن الاتحاد الأوزبكي لكرة القدم، اليوم (الإثنين)، تعيين الإيطالي فابيو كانافارو مديراً فنياً للمنتخب الأول، استعداداً لخوض لبطولة كأس العالم 2026.
وجاء في بيان الاتحاد الأوزبكي: «وقّع اتحاد كرة القدم الأوزبكي عقداً مع فابيو كانافارو، الخبير الكروي المعروف، والمشارك في كأس العالم ثلاث مرات، وبطل نسخة 2006، وأحد أبرز المدافعين في تاريخ كرة القدم الحديثة».
مُهمة «مونديالية» لبطل العالم
وأضاف البيان: «سيتولى المدرب الإيطالي قيادة المنتخب الوطني استعداداً مونديال 2026 التي ستقام في الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية وكندا والمكسيك».
وسيتولى كانافارو المهمة خلفاً للمدرب تيمور كابادزه، الذي قاد أوزبكستان للتأهل إلى نهائيات كأس العالم لأول مرة في تاريخها، في يونيو الماضي.
وكان كانافارو قد خاض تجربة تدريبية مع نادي النصر بين أكتوبر 2015 وفبراير 2016، إلا أن مسيرته مع الفريق لم تدم طويلاً، حيث تمت إقالته بسبب تراجع النتائج.
The Uzbekistan Football Association announced today (Monday) the appointment of Italian Fabio Cannavaro as the head coach of the national team, in preparation for the 2026 World Cup.
The Uzbekistan Football Association's statement said: "The Uzbekistan Football Association has signed a contract with Fabio Cannavaro, the renowned football expert, who has participated in the World Cup three times, was the champion of the 2006 edition, and is one of the most prominent defenders in the history of modern football."
A "World Cup" Mission for the World Champion
The statement added: "The Italian coach will lead the national team in preparation for the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico."
Cannavaro will take over the role from coach Timur Kapadze, who led Uzbekistan to qualify for the World Cup finals for the first time in its history last June.
Cannavaro had a coaching stint with Al Nassr between October 2015 and February 2016, but his time with the team was short-lived, as he was dismissed due to a decline in results.
