Antonio Conte, the head coach of Napoli, has put an end to speculation regarding his tense relationship with the team's star, Kevin De Bruyne, following his substitution in the match against Milan last Sunday. De Bruyne appeared angry as he left the field, muttering some words in front of Conte during the game, which ended with Napoli losing to Milan (2-1) in the fifth round of the Italian league.
However, Napoli quickly regained their balance, winning against Sporting Lisbon (2-1) yesterday (Wednesday) in the UEFA Champions League, after losing in the first round match against Manchester City by two goals to none.
In his talk to "Sky Sport" after the match, the Italian coach began discussing media speculation about a disagreement with De Bruyne, saying: "Kevin, compared to other signings, comes from a different reality. He has spent years at Manchester City and played at the highest level.. I have nothing to say to him, he is a great player and works hard. I understand his desire to play, but there are also substitutions. I want to win, and if I make them, it’s to improve the team.. It’s natural for things to be discussed in the media based on results; what matters is that everyone gives their best for the team."
Kevin De Bruyne also put an end to the speculation that had recently arisen about a disagreement with Antonio Conte, following the match against Lisbon, where he stated: "There is no problem with Conte, there has never been any issue with him.. I am a winning player, I want to play football and make a difference. A lot has been said and written, but I just want to enjoy and move forward."
De Bruyne also clarified his role in Conte's plan, which had him playing in the midfield while Scott McTominay played on the flanks, saying: "At first, I played the same way with City, I often dropped back. These are the coach's decisions, but I believe we can switch positions among the four of us. Without a real left winger, it’s sometimes difficult to find depth in the team."
Kevin joined Napoli during the last summer transfer window, in a free transfer after leaving Manchester City at the end of his contract, following a successful career filled with titles with the Sky Blues.
