قال مدرب إيطاليا جينارو غاتوزو إن منتخب بلاده غير محظوظ بوجوده في مجموعة تضم إسرائيل في تصفيات أوروبا المؤهلة إلى كأس العالم 2026.
وحقق المنتخب الإيطالي انتصاره الأول تحت قيادة غاتوزو على حساب إستونيا بخماسية نظيفة، ضمن منافسات الجولة الخامسة من تصفيات المونديال، ويستعد لمواجهة إسرائيل، الإثنين القادم.
وأضاف غاتوزو في تصريحات صحفية حول مواجهة إسرائيل: «أنا رجل سلام، وأسوأ ما في الأمر هو رؤية المدنيين والأطفال يُعانون مما يمرون به».
وتابع: «سنعود إلى كوفيرتشانو للتحضير للمواجهة، أعلم أن الاتحاد الإيطالي يُحاول تنظيم المباراة بشكل جيد، لم يحالفنا الحظ بوجود منتخب إسرائيل مجموعتنا، هناك أشياء مؤلمة نراها، لا أستطيع قول المزيد».
ويواجه المنتخب الإيطالي، الفائز بكأس العالم أربع مرات، ضغطاً محلياً هائلاً للتأهل إلى مونديال 2026، بعد غيابه عن النسختين الأخيرتين.
Italy's coach Gennaro Gattuso said that his national team is unfortunate to be in a group that includes Israel in the European qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.
The Italian national team achieved its first victory under Gattuso's leadership against Estonia with a clean sheet of five goals, during the fifth round of World Cup qualifiers, and is preparing to face Israel next Monday.
Gattuso added in press statements regarding the match against Israel: "I am a man of peace, and the worst part is seeing civilians and children suffering from what they are going through."
He continued: "We will return to Coverciano to prepare for the match. I know that the Italian Football Federation is trying to organize the game well. We have not been lucky to have the Israeli team in our group; there are painful things we see, and I cannot say more."
The Italian national team, which has won the World Cup four times, is facing immense domestic pressure to qualify for the 2026 World Cup after missing the last two editions.
