تأهل الدنماركي هولغر رونه المصنف الخامس عالميا إلى الدور الثالث من بطولة تورنتو الكندية للتنس فئة الألف نقطة، بفوزه على الفرنسي دجوفاني بيتشي بيريكار بمجموعتين دون رد، ضمن مباريات الدور الثاني من البطولة.
وتمكن رونه من التفوق على منافسه في ساعة وربع الساعة بالنتيجة /7 - 6 و6 - 3/ لينجح في الثأر لخسارته من بيتشي بيريكار في نصف نهائي بطولة بازل السويسرية العام الماضي.
ويلتقي رونه في الدور الثالث مع الفرنسي الآخر ألكسندر مولر المصنف التاسع والعشرين والذي تأهل للدور ذاته على حساب الصربي ميومير كيتسمانوفيتش بمجموعتين مقابل واحدة في وقت سابق اليوم.
وتأهل أيضا إلى الدور ذاته كل من الروسي كارن خاتشانوف المصنف الحادي عشر بتغلبه على الأرجنتيني خوان بابلو فيكوفيش بمجموعتين دون رد بالنتيجة /6 - 4 و6 - 2/، الأمريكي إيميليو نافا بفوزه على الفرنسي تايرنس أتمان بمجموعتين دون رد بالنتيجة /6 - 2 و7 - 5/، والأمريكي الآخر أليكس ميكيلسن المصنف السادس والعشرين بتغلبه على التشيلي توماس باريوس فيرا بمجموعتين دون رد بالنتيجة /7 - 6 و6 - 3/.
وسيلتقي في الدور الثالث خاتشانوف مع إيميليو نافا، وأليكس ميكيلسن مع الفائز من مباراة الإيطالي لورنتسو موزيتي أو الأسترالي جيمس داكوورث.

Rune managed to outplay his opponent in one hour and fifteen minutes with a score of /7 - 6 and 6 - 3/, successfully avenging his loss to Bicecchi Pericard in the semifinals of the Swiss Basel tournament last year.
