تمكن فريق لوس أنجلوس إف سي الأمريكي من حجز آخر بطاقات التأهل إلى بطولة كأس العالم للأندية 2025، التي ستقام في الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية في الفترة من 14 يونيو وحتى 13 يوليو القادم، بعد فوزه على كلوب أمريكا المكسيكي بنتيجة 2-1 في المباراة الفاصلة التي أقيمت على ملعب BMO في لوس أنجلوس.
جاء هذا اللقاء الحاسم بعد قرار الاتحاد الدولي لكرة القدم (فيفا) استبعاد نادي ليون المكسيكي بسبب تعارض ملكيته مع نادي باتشوكا المكسيكي، ما اضطر إلى إقامة مباراة فاصلة بين لوس أنجلوس إف سي وكلوب أمريكا لتحديد الفريق الأخير المتأهل.
افتتح كلوب أمريكا التسجيل في الدقيقة 64 عبر ركلة جزاء نفذها بنجاح اللاعب السابق في لوس أنجلوس الأمريكي الأوروغواياني برايان رودريغيز، بعد تدخل غير قانوني من لاعب وسط لوس أنجلوس مارك ديلغادو داخل منطقة الجزاء، وتأكد القرار من خلال تقنية الفيديو. وسط سيطرة شبه كاملة من الفريق المكسيكي وجماهيره الغفيرة التي غطت على جمهور لوس أنجلوس، بدا أن الفوز سيكون من نصيب الفريق الضيف.
