وسيشارك سندرلاند للمرة 17 في تاريخه بالنظام الجديد لبطولة الدوري الإنجليزي الذي انطلق عام 1992، وسبق له الفوز بلقب البطولة ست مرات كان آخرها في موسم 1935-1936.
وتقدم شيفيلد يونايتد عن طريق تيريز كامبل في الدقيقة 25، قبل أن يدرك سندرلاند التعادل في الدقيقة 76 عن طريق إيليرز ماييدا.
وفي الدقيقة الثامنة من الوقت بدل الضائع، سجل توم والستون الهدف الثاني لسندرلاند، ليضمن الفريق مكانه في البطولة الموسم القادم، عائداً إليها بعد غياب منذ موسم 2016-2017.
The Sunderland team has returned to the English Premier League following their 2-1 victory over Sheffield United in the playoff match held at Wembley Stadium in the British capital, London.
Sunderland successfully reached the playoff final by defeating Coventry City in the semi-finals, managing to secure the third promotion spot after their win against Sheffield, joining Burnley and Leeds United.
This will be Sunderland's 17th participation in the new format of the English league that started in 1992, and they have previously won the championship title six times, the last of which was in the 1935-1936 season.
Sheffield United took the lead through Tyrese Campbell in the 25th minute, before Sunderland equalized in the 76th minute with a goal from Eilidh Maida.
In the eighth minute of stoppage time, Tom Walston scored Sunderland's second goal, ensuring the team's place in the league for the upcoming season, returning after an absence since the 2016-2017 season.
