The governor of Hodeidah, Al-Hassan Taher, confirmed that what happened in Al-Khawkhah and Hays south of Hodeidah, and the western districts of Taiz governorate should not be treated as a passing incident, nor should it be reduced to the bravery of the fighters or placing the responsibility on the soldiers who fought in the field. The real question that should be asked is how the terrorist Houthi group managed to make significant breakthroughs in a short period of time? He stated in an interview with "Okaz" that a committee has been formed to investigate everything that happened, pointing out that restoring the state to its institutions and sovereignty cannot be achieved through reactions or slogans, but rather by building a cohesive national capacity that operates under the leadership of the state. He indicated that efforts are underway to reorganize the internal structure, enhance coordination between state institutions and its forces, provide the needs of the fronts, and correct the imbalances revealed by recent developments. We must emphasize that the battle is not only military; there is also a political, economic, media, and humanitarian track that is equally important. The governor of Hodeidah discussed important topics through the following dialogue:
The morale of the armed forces is high
• You participated in confronting the Houthis on several fronts; how did you find the morale of the armed forces?
•• What we witnessed in the field confirms that the morale of our armed forces heroes, in all their names and formations, cannot be measured solely by the movement of front lines. We found brave men who understand the magnitude of the responsibility placed upon them, starting from the individuals, officers, and leaders, and they know they are defending the republic and state institutions and the lives and security of citizens, fighting for the stability of the country and the consolidation of the pillars of the Yemeni republic and confronting Iranian ambitions and its expansionist goals.
It is true that the phase is difficult and the recent developments were harsh, but our forces have begun to regain the initiative, and the soldier who holds his position in such circumstances provides evidence that the battle has not ended with a retreat here or a loss of a position there. In my opinion, what is required today is that this spirit among the fighters is met with a similar responsibility at the leadership level through better organization, continuous support, unification of efforts, and addressing shortcomings with courage and transparency. The fighter needs leadership that is close to him, an institution that stands behind him, and a national front that clearly knows what it is defending.

The fall of the fronts is not a passing matter
• Why did the coast and Bab al-Mandab suddenly fall, as if reminding us of the fall of the Naham front in 2020?
•• What happened in Al-Khawkhah and Hays south of Hodeidah, and the western districts of Taiz governorate should not be treated as a passing incident, nor should it be reduced to the bravery of the fighters or placing the responsibility on the soldiers who fought in the field. The real question that should be asked is how the terrorist Houthi group managed to make significant breakthroughs in a short period of time? This is a matter that requires a responsible military and institutional assessment, starting from the command and control system, readiness, information exchange, support, and coordination between fronts, up to how to deal with the indicators of escalation that preceded the attack. An investigation committee has been formed to look into everything that happened.
The coastal districts are a geographical unit
• How do you view the Houthi militia's control over Al-Mokha, Bab al-Mandab, the islands, and the districts along the western coast?
•• It must be emphasized that what happened is viewed with great seriousness because the issue transcends the boundaries of a district, port, or island. We are talking about a geographical area that is linked to the security of Yemen, the Red Sea, Bab al-Mandab, and international navigation. For us in Hodeidah, the coastal districts represent a cohesive geographical, social, and economic unit, and what happens in Al-Mokha or Bab al-Mandab cannot be separated from what is happening in Hodeidah and Tihama in general. At the same time, we say to our sons in the areas that witnessed these developments: you are our people and citizens, and the state is responsible for you wherever you are. Protecting civilians, their properties, and their rights must remain a top priority, and we will return to liberate you from this terrorist gang soon, God willing.
Building a cohesive national capacity
• How can all the sites controlled by the Houthis be recovered?
•• Restoring the state to its institutions and sovereignty cannot be achieved through reactions or slogans, but rather by building a cohesive national capacity that operates under the leadership of the state. Currently, efforts are underway to reorganize the internal structure, enhance coordination between state institutions and its forces, provide the needs of the fronts, and correct the imbalances revealed by recent developments. We must emphasize that the battle is not only military; there is also a political, economic, media, and humanitarian track that is equally important. The citizen in areas under the control of the terrorist Houthi group must see in the state a project of security, justice, institutions, and services, not just another party in the war. As for military plans, timing, and axes, they are the responsibility of the relevant military leadership and should not be turned into open media material.
The existence of leadership is of utmost importance
• How is the cohesion of the fronts, and what about managing operations for all forces from a single room?
•• The existence of effective leadership, control, and operational coordination among various forces is of utmost importance, while respecting the legal and military structure of the state and the jurisdiction of the concerned institutions. The national battle should not be a collection of separate battles; rather, it should be a comprehensive institutional effort led by the state.
• What steps can the Presidential Leadership Council take to mobilize all fronts without exception and head towards Sana'a?
•• Decisions regarding mobilizing the fronts or the direction of operations fall within the jurisdiction of military institutions and the high command, and are subject to field, political, and humanitarian calculations that cannot be reduced to a media statement. However, the principle we emphasize is that restoring state institutions and ending the state of division is a national goal that the Presidential Leadership Council works towards with determination, and Sana'a is the capital for all Yemenis and should not become the exclusive property of any armed group.
Our armed forces and the heavy responsibility
• What is your message to the heroes of the armed forces?
•• I say to my brothers and sons, the heroes of our armed forces, that you bear a heavy responsibility in an exceptional phase of Yemen's history. Your sacrifices are appreciated, we mourn the martyrs, and we wish a speedy recovery for the wounded. Supporting their families is our collective responsibility.
• What is your message to the Yemeni people in all governorates?
•• My message to our people, from Hodeidah to Sana'a, Taiz, Aden, Marib, Hadhramaut, Saada, and all Yemeni governorates, is that Yemen is greater than our differences, and greater than groups, parties, and individuals. Yemenis have paid a heavy price for this war ignited by the terrorist Houthi militia to serve an Iranian agenda, and the future of our children should not be a new round of revenge and division. We fight today for a state that encompasses all Yemenis, a state of institutions, law, and equal citizenship, where there is no authority of weapons outside state institutions, and no place for discrimination among Yemenis based on their region, tribe, or affiliation.
I specifically address the people of Tihama and Hodeidah with a heartfelt message; we know the extent of what you have endured, and we understand the concerns of families, the displaced, and those who remain in their areas. It is our responsibility to stand by you, and to ensure that the protection of the Tihami person, their rights, security, and dignity is at the forefront of our priorities. No matter how harsh the moment, the future of Yemen cannot be built on fear or revenge, but rather on a just and strong state that preserves sovereignty, safeguards the dignity of the citizen, and restores the Yemeni's trust in their homeland.
