In an escalation that threatens the safety of travelers and air navigation, Aden International Airport was subjected today (Wednesday) to two missile attacks launched by the Houthi terrorist militia, resulting in the runway being out of service and disrupting flights.
Sources at Aden Airport reported that authorities rushed to evacuate passengers from the departure and arrival halls after receiving information about a Houthi threat targeting the airport, in order to ensure the safety of civilians and workers.
They explained that the shelling caused the disruption of four flights, while a fifth flight coming from Cairo was diverted to Djibouti Airport.
The sources added that the relevant authorities began repairing the damaged runways in preparation for the resumption of air traffic and the return of flights to operation, amid fears of continued targeting of the airport and exposing travelers to new risks.
According to the sources, the Houthi missile bombardment caused panic among school students in the Khour Maksar district, resulting in injuries to several children due to the stampede while fleeing from schools.
For its part, the Yemeni Ministry of Transport strongly condemned the renewed targeting of Aden International Airport by the Houthi terrorist militia, confirming that the militia shelled it twice today, the first at 1 PM and the second at 3 PM, raising the number of attacks on the airport to six in just a few days.
The ministry affirmed that the repeated targeting of the airport, as a vital civilian facility, poses a direct threat to the lives of travelers, aircraft crews, and workers, and exposes civil aviation to serious risks, in addition to its implications for the movement of citizens and humanitarian and relief efforts.
The ministry held the Houthi terrorist militia fully responsible for the attacks and their consequences, calling on the international community and relevant UN organizations, led by the International Civil Aviation Organization, to condemn the attacks and take urgent action to stop them, and to adopt a clear and firm stance that ensures the protection of airports and civilian facilities, and preserves the safety of civil aviation in accordance with international laws and agreements.
In simultaneous field developments, four airstrikes targeted a security administration established by the Houthi terrorist militia and its surroundings in the city of Al-Mokha, west of Taiz Governorate, resulting in casualties among its members.
The Yemeni news agency "Khabar" reported local residents as saying that the airstrikes targeted the new security administration building and its vicinity, resulting in the death of the Houthi security supervisor known as "Abu Ziyad Al-Ashami," who hails from Hajjah Governorate, along with several militia members.
Residents added that the militia imposed a tight security cordon around the site and prevented citizens from approaching it, coinciding with the start of retrieving the bodies of its dead from inside the destroyed building.
In the same context, a maritime source informed the "Khabar" agency that airstrikes destroyed two boats in the Red Sea, which had set off from Al-Mokha carrying weapons and ammunition, in an attempt to deliver them to militia members besieged in the Bab al-Mandab area, noting that those on board were killed.
Earlier, warplanes targeted a newly established camp for the Houthi militia in the Al-Khadra area of Al-Mokha, resulting in a large number of casualties among its ranks, while strikes continue against militia positions and military movements along the western coast.
