The President of the Egyptian Senate, Counselor Essam El-Din Farid, confirmed that the security of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Gulf States is an integral part of Egyptian and Arab national security, emphasizing that Egypt's participation in enhancing Saudi defenses, in accordance with coordination between the two countries, aims to confront any external aggression and does not imply a move towards attacking Yemen. He expressed hope that diplomatic efforts would lead to an end to the conflict and maintain stability in the region.
These statements by the Senate President came during the council's general session on Monday, following his receipt of a letter from the President of the Shura Council of the Republic of Yemen, Dr. Ahmed Obaid Bin Daghr, in which he expressed the Yemeni council's welcome and support for what Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi announced regarding Egypt's participation in defending the security of the sister Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, considering it Egyptian security and Arab national security.
Farid stated that the Yemeni message reflects the depth of brotherly relations between Egypt and Saudi Arabia and confirms that the Egyptian stance is a commitment to the Arab collective defense treaty and part of a responsible national response aimed at protecting the interests of Arab countries and their peoples.
He added that the President of the Yemeni Shura Council affirmed in his message that the council's position expresses the will of the Yemeni people and their leadership represented in the Presidential Leadership Council, headed by Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi. He also appreciated what the Egyptian stance reflects about Cairo's status in its Arab surroundings, its support for the Kingdom in defending its security, stability, territorial integrity, and safeguarding its resources and Islamic sanctities.
The stability of the Gulf directly impacts Egyptian national security.
The Senate President emphasized that the council received the Yemeni message with great appreciation, considering it reflects the historical bonds of brotherhood that unite the Egyptian and Yemeni peoples and reaffirms the solid truth that Arab national security is an indivisible unit.
Farid stated that the stability of the brothers in the Arabian Gulf is directly related to Egyptian national security, stressing that Egypt's support for the Gulf States is not an emergency position imposed by current circumstances but rather a natural extension of Cairo's belief in a shared Arab national security, for which it bears responsibilities based on its convictions and principles.
He added that Egypt believes that the security of the Arab nation cannot be completed in the presence of ongoing crises and conflicts within its countries, emphasizing that restoring stability in various Arab countries, including Sudan, Libya, and Somalia, remains a fixed goal of Egyptian policy.
He clarified that Cairo's principles in this context are based on non-interference in the internal affairs of countries, not conspiring against them, preserving the unity of the national state and its institutions, and enhancing cooperation for construction, development, and reconstruction.
Egypt: Our position is defensive and does not target Yemen.
The Senate President stressed that the Egyptian stance on enhancing Saudi defenses is purely defensive, aimed at protecting the Kingdom's territories, borders, sovereignty, and sanctities against any external aggression, following coordination between the two brotherly countries.
He added that this stance extends, in principle, to defending the territories of any other Arab country if requested by Egypt, affirming that the Egyptian effort will not extend beyond Egypt's borders or the borders of a sister state that Cairo is keen on securing and stabilizing.
Regarding Yemen, Farid confirmed that the Egyptian position does not include launching an attack on the country, pointing out that the brotherly Yemen has good relations with Egypt, and Cairo does not consider attacking it.
The Senate President stated that Egypt stands by its brothers "as a shield that protects, not as a sword that attacks," reaffirming that its movements aim to protect security and stability, not to expand the scope of conflict or attack Arab countries.
Ending the conflict through diplomacy.
Essam El-Din Farid concluded his statements by affirming Egypt's commitment to the diplomatic path as the best way to end conflicts and maintain peace in the region.
He expressed hope that political and diplomatic efforts would lead to a mechanism that ends the conflict and preserves peace, emphasizing that wisdom represents the shortest path to security and that peace remains the most important guarantee for the stability of peoples.
These statements come at a time when attention is turning to Egyptian parliamentary movements related to President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's request regarding taking necessary measures to preserve Arab national security and enhance the defenses of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The Egyptian Parliament discusses measures to protect Arab national security.
The Egyptian Parliament is discussing, on Monday, a new session related to authorizing the Egyptian armed forces to take necessary measures to preserve Arab national security and enhance Saudi defenses, following President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's request in this regard a few days ago.
The reference to parliamentary procedures is within the framework of Article 130 of the internal regulations of the House of Representatives, which governs the council's approval by a two-thirds majority of its members for declaring war or sending the armed forces on a combat mission outside the state's borders, according to Article 152 of the Constitution.
The mentioned procedures stipulate holding an urgent secret session at the request of the President of the Republic, after consulting the National Defense Council.
