داهمت إدارة تحقيقات الأمن الداخلي الأمريكي منزل النائبة الديمقراطية إلهان عمر في واشنطن، (الإثنين)، في إطار تحقيق جنائي بشأن شبهات احتيال في أوراق الهجرة الخاصة بها.
شاركت وزارة الأمن الداخلي والعدل في العملية التي بدأت الساعة السادسة صباحاً. عمر تمثل ولاية مينيسوتا وتُعد من أبرز الوجوه الديمقراطية.
وكشف مصدر مطلع لشبكة FOX News، عن رؤية عدد من العملاء الفيدراليين، الذين يرتدون سترات تحمل شعار إدارة تحقيقات الأمن الداخلي، خارج منزل عمر في العاصمة واشنطن.
وأفاد مصدران مقربان من التحقيق بأن عملية التفتيش تأتي في إطار تحقيق جنائي بشأن شبهات احتيال تتعلق بأوراق الهجرة الخاصة بالنائبة الأمريكية من أصل صومالي، والتي تولى والدها الراحل تعبئتها عندما كانت طفلة.
وبدأت المداهمة قرابة الساعة السادسة صباحاً (11:00 صباحاً بتوقيت جرينتش) بقيادة إدارة تحقيقات الأمن الداخلي ووزارة الأمن الداخلي (DHS)، كما تشارك وزارة العدل (DOJ) أيضاً في التحقيق.
وقال متحدث باسم وزارة العدل: إن إدارة تحقيقات الأمن الداخلي نفذت في منطقة العاصمة واشنطن، مذكرة تفتيش مصرح بها قضائياً كانت قد استصدرتها وزارة العدل. ويُعد إجراء الإنفاذ هذا جزءاً من تحقيق فيدرالي جارٍ.
وذكرت وكالة "أسوشيتد برس"، أن عملاء اتحاديين فتّشوا منزل النائبة الديمقراطية في إطار تحقيق جنائي، مشيرة إلى أن تفاصيل التحقيق لم تتضح على الفور.
ونقلت عن أشخاص مطلعين على القضية، طلبوا عدم الكشف عن هوياتهم، قولهم إن عملية التفتيش نفذها عملاء من إدارة تحقيقات الأمن الداخلي الأمريكية (HSI).
من جانبها، أوضحت وزارة العدل الأمريكية في بيان، أن عملاء الإدارة نفذوا مذكرة تفتيش مصرحاً بها قضائياً، استصدرتها الوزارة في منطقة العاصمة واشنطن، دون تقديم تفاصيل إضافية. وأضافت الوزارة: "يُعد إجراء الإنفاذ هذا جزءاً من تحقيق جنائي اتحادي جارٍ".
وتبلغ إلهان عمر 44 عاماً، وتمثل الدائرة الانتخابية الخامسة في ولاية مينيسوتا، التي تضم مدينة مينيابوليس. وانتُخبت للمرة الأولى عضوةً في مجلس النواب عام 2018.
وكان الرئيس ترمب، قال إن النائبتين الديمقراطيتين في الكونغرس إلهان عمر ورشيدة طليب، يجب إعادتهما إلى "بلديهما الأصليين".
ووجّهت رشيدة طليب، وهي أمريكية من أصل فلسطيني، وإلهان عمر، وهي أمريكية من أصل صومالي، انتقادات لترمب خلال خطابه، بعدما أشاد بحملة إدارته الصارمة ضد الهجرة وإجراءاتها لإنفاذ قوانين الهجرة.
وقال ترمب في منشور على منصة "تروث سوشال"، إن النائبتين "كانت عيونهما جاحظة ومحتقنة بالدماء كالمجانين.. مريضتان عقلياً.. بصراحة.. يبدو أنه يجب إيداعهن في مصحة عقلية". وأضاف: "يجب أن نعيدهما إلى حيث جاءتا.. بأسرع ما يمكن".
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Investigations Division raided the home of Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar in Washington on Monday as part of a criminal investigation into allegations of fraud regarding her immigration paperwork.
The Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Justice participated in the operation, which began at 6 a.m. Omar represents Minnesota and is considered one of the prominent Democratic figures.
A source familiar with the situation told FOX News that several federal agents wearing jackets bearing the Department of Homeland Security's Investigations Division logo were seen outside Omar's home in the nation's capital.
Two sources close to the investigation reported that the search operation is part of a criminal investigation concerning allegations of fraud related to the immigration paperwork of the Somali-American congresswoman, which her late father filled out when she was a child.
The raid began around 6 a.m. (11:00 a.m. GMT) led by the Department of Homeland Security's Investigations Division, with the Department of Justice also participating in the investigation.
A spokesperson for the Department of Justice stated that the Department of Homeland Security executed a court-authorized search warrant in the Washington D.C. area that had been issued by the Department of Justice. This enforcement action is part of an ongoing federal investigation.
The Associated Press reported that federal agents searched the home of the Democratic congresswoman as part of a criminal investigation, noting that details of the investigation were not immediately clear.
It quoted individuals familiar with the case, who requested anonymity, stating that the search was carried out by agents from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Investigations Division (HSI).
For its part, the U.S. Department of Justice clarified in a statement that the agency's agents executed a court-authorized search warrant issued by the department in the Washington D.C. area, without providing additional details. The department added, "This enforcement action is part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation."
Ilhan Omar is 44 years old and represents Minnesota's 5th congressional district, which includes the city of Minneapolis. She was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2018.
President Trump stated that the two Democratic congresswomen, Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib, should be sent back to "their original countries."
Rashida Tlaib, an American of Palestinian descent, and Ilhan Omar, an American of Somali descent, criticized Trump during his speech after he praised his administration's tough stance on immigration and its enforcement of immigration laws.
Trump said in a post on the Truth Social platform that the two congresswomen "had bulging eyes and were bloodshot like crazy people... mentally ill... frankly... they should be committed to a mental institution." He added, "We should send them back to where they came from... as quickly as possible."
