Six Pakistani soldiers were killed yesterday (Thursday) in a roadside bomb explosion targeting a security forces convoy in the Hangu area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in the northwest of the country, while government forces announced the killing of 10 militants during security operations in the province.
The army and local police confirmed today (Friday) the occurrence of the explosion, while the army clarified that security forces carried out several operations in North Waziristan and Hangu based on intelligence information, resulting in the deaths of 10 militants suspected of belonging to the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan.
The army described the militants killed in the operations as "Kharijites," a term used by the Pakistani government to refer to members of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan.
Attacks targeting Pakistani security forces have escalated this year, with several soldiers killed in attacks and clashes with militants, while three members of the special forces were killed and four others injured during confrontations with militants last June.
Pakistani forces conduct regular security operations in the border areas of the northwest of the country to pursue Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan militants, who are active in the region and launch attacks on security forces.
